"Military spending accelerates climate breakdown."
At #COP28 in Dubai, Deborah Burton of @_TPNS talks about how the world's armed forces, especially in NATO countries, contribute to rising temperatures and climate chaos.
For 20 years, a $6 knob that takes one hour to 3D print has been grounding Black Hawk helicopters four times a month, and the contractor responsible won't sell us the part or the IP rights to fix it ourselves.
So instead, American taxpayers have been paying $40,000 every single time to replace the entire system, multiplied by four times a month, for two decades.
That is NOT a procurement problem, that is a shakedown, and it is exactly why right to repair has to be in this year's NDAA.
From tomorrow, 50+ countries meet in Santa Marta to map a fast, fair, financed transition away from fossil fuels.
Alongside them, the People’s Summit (24–26 April) ensures those most affected lead the call.
A People’s Roadmap will follow.

I think anyone with a heart would be truly against fuelling an economy of militarism and genocide if they actually understood the human and environmental costs of war.
It’s telling that the US is willing to pay an estimated $891.4 million dollars PER DAY in ongoing attack on Iran, but refuses to shelter Americans, or provide them with free healthcare & education.
This is not just a war against Iran, it’s a clear declaration of war against Americans.
The US administration is and has been denying Americans right to political engagement and clamping down on dissent to appease and benefit warlords & death cults.
Emphasizing what we all already knew, Pentagon made it very clear that there was no sign Iran was going to strike first.
The US is conducting a mass slaughter with Israel in Iran, Lebanon, and Palestine and using Iran as a scapegoat.
The US cannot claim to be supporting Iranians for freedom when Trump sent armed forces against Americans, greenlighted their murder, put children in cages, mass imprisoned American men because of their race— and continues to oppress the Indigenous people of America.
It’s really twisted times we are witnessing.
you could say unbelievable, our European leader will not condemn Trump's flagrant breach of international laws, but we've all watched them cower on US/Israel impunity in Gaza.
So you can violate international law and invade a country if it has a bad enough government?
Out of fear of offending Trump, Ukraine’s foreign minister has now essentially justified Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Bombing Venezuela while coordinating a genocide in Palestine while threatening to attack Iran (again) while destabillizing Somalia while carrying out a heist in the DRC...
US imperialism is the greatest threat to peace and security in our world today and it's not even close.
Critics of the war and NATO policy have long said the war and its devastating impact could have been avoided by explicitly ruling out Ukrainian entry into NATO, only to be told they were spreading Kremlin propaganda. It turns out they were simply spreading Biden officials' own private thoughts.

The UK says it won't even bother when the next pandemic hits. The lesson most countries have drawn from covid is that letting the old and weak die is better for capitalism. The pandemic was a waymarker on our journey to a harsher, crueller world
NEW @stavroulapabst: A new SIPRI report finds that U.S. arms contractors’ revenues are surging, even as their programs are late and over budget, undermining military planning and drawing funds and resources away from other government priorities.

There's a danger within our military that not enough people are talking about:
Flight crashes are killing our troops at record rates.
I'm pushing for answers to get to the bottom of this.
Big defense contractors are going to war over a Senate provision that would force them to allow the Pentagon to repair its own equipment. This is insane. https://t.co/PQmyYv79Md
"Last time the United States intervened in Mexico, they took half of our territory"
President Sheinbaum said she would not accept "support" from foreign troops, after Trump suggested he would "be proud" to bomb Mexican boats to stop "drug cartels" from coming to the US.
