There is always a lot of noise, misinformation, and selective framing around Austin's transit future right now. Let's talk facts about Project Connect, what's actually happening, and why this investment matters for Austin's future ๐งต
The question isn't whether Austin will grow. The question is how we will grow and whether we grow with more choices, more opportunity and more mobility for everyone.
Where there is vision, there will always be critics. But we know that with hard work, due diligence and a belief in the future of Austin, this work will bring benefits for years to come.
This project isn't about a war on cars or buses. It is about creating a healthy transit ecosystem for the future of our city and setting ourselves up to thrive over the next 100 years.
This is fun! Let's do I-35.
TxDOT is spending $8 billion to add 2 lanes to an existing highway. Daily traffic will go from 230k to 303k in 2045. So that's $108k per person.
Instead, we could buy each of those 73,000 people that were going to use I-35 their own helicopter!
Austinโs future is on the move.
Join us for Transit Forwardโs Spring Luncheon as Mayor Kirk Watson, Greg Canally, and Dottie Watkins share updates on light rail, Project Connect, and the next chapter of mobility in our region.
Letโs give Austin the green light. ๐ฆ
