Living in baltimore while having DC friends is so much harder without late night MARC service. My weekends would be sooo much better if there was even just one train back at like 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights
@_michaelstarnes@maxtmcc I've only made this connection like 3 times, with the streetcar or existing buses, but every time it felt so awkward and makeshift. Unless I went the wrong way or something, it could be a lot better with a more legit walkway, signage and maybe a moving walkway
@MattBowman0120@mattyglesias It's funny I actually have a friend that lives in jersey and commutes to Elmont by car. But even putting obscure commutes aside, it's not crazy to think of someone commuting to queens from jersey or, like, Newark from Long island
@jemillerbalt I got paywalled but based on what I've learned elsewhere, yeah it seems like the vacant homes thing is more a factor of "we finally got around to levelling them", which is fine i guess but not really an indicator of a comeback narrative
This way, the contiguous metro map marches forward, and Wes Moore still gets his red line train (if you squint it's Hopkins<->W Baltimore, and maybe some sort of BRT for the rest). Someday, blast through the wall on the other side and branch there too with light metro stations
Mel mentioned this idea at the @redlinemaryland CAT meeting last night. Since the project is back at the drawing board, maybe it's worth studying. Apparently there's even a branch stub already in the tunnel
Bore a couple blocks, portal, then lay tracks w minimal utility issues
Could be missing something and ik the ship has sailed (or has it?), but it still seems wise to simply bore the three blocks from eutaw to MLK, then put a branch of the metro to West baltimore marc. It's ~2 miles of integrated metro AND regional connection for like <1bn
@AudeIdScire@sam_d_1995 I mostly agree with that yeah, but I think it’s at least case-by-case in the private sector, and the best cases make at least some sense (like sports leagues). In the public sector, it’s more clear-cut and the harms are disastrous to the general public
@sam_d_1995 In the private sector, unions are a force for distributing profits and reducing inequality. In the public sector, they're a force for increasing costs and worsening service. Private sector unions are fine, but this is a good example of why public sector ones are just bad
The curving traffic spur that connects northbound vehicular traffic on Light Street with Calvert Street will close permanently in November, a city planner told local tourism industry leaders on Thursday. https://t.co/SuvW816I1G
@PpollingNumbers I love AOC, but idk if I like how she matches up against rubio. AOC could make vance look cringe, or make trump look dumb, but rubio is the only republican that can present as smarter than AOC. and rubio's big weakness is just that he's short which aoc obviously can't exploit
