@peterlevine#AprilFoolDay Trump running for President again .. and 8 years ago today I warned why he'd win .. and the Biden admin's #OpenGov program has convinced people that their govt does now listen to them.
Five years ago #AprilFoolsDay, I tried to explain why people were so frustrated at being un-heard and dismissed by the ruling elites ..that they would even vote for Trump! Still the case. #opengov

As humans, we have a tendency -- which can be made worse (e.g., when we're Being Rushed) -- to oversimplify and see things in Only Two ways:
Yes/No
True/False
Black/White
Good/Bad
Us/Them
The Mayflower Compact was drafted and signed only 2 days after the Pilgrims sighted land.
It's amazing they were able to discuss and agree on a major document so quickly .. except when you remember that they were not distracted by smartphones: email, text-messages, social media.
@1a@MajorCBS@lupcb To paraphrase Deming's observation on #systems:
"The debate format that we have is perfectly designed to produce the results that we are getting."
Want a different result? Change the format so that the #Moderator actually has the power to control things .. like a mute button!
Remember: If you, like most, are wondering why they don't have mute buttons in debates. It's the same reason they have the entirely pointless studio audiences. Their goal isn't policy discussions, their goal is TV moments. We have to press @debates to be better than this
"Candidates will then have an opportunity to respond to each other."
Not true.
The Commission @Debates needs to add ".. and interrupt as if there were no #Moderator."

NEW: Chris Wallace, moderator of the first presidential debate, has selected topics for the 9/29 debate – The Trump and Biden Records, The Supreme Court, Covid-19, The Economy, Race and Violence in our Cities, The Integrity of the Election #Debates2020

The commission on presidential debates is going to have to explore giving the moderator the ability to mute the mics for future debates.
We can't keep doing this.
