Tomorrow, all federal agencies will be ordered to appoint a "Chief Public Engagement Officer" so that people are being informed and engaged in the decisions that affect their lives. #PPCE

@mdelcf The "locals" know things about *their* roads (and other infrastructure) that are missed by the design "experts" .. because they usually do NOT involve the public in project design .. in a *meaningful* way. DM me to collab on EZ way to evaluate the quality of #PublicParticipation.
30 years ago today, as a federal employee in an office overseeing 1000s of env. cleanup sites, I wrote an official memo that reported our agency's using an illegal shortcut to avoid the public's right-to-be-involved. As a result, my career was done. Still true today. @OpenGovPart
At most meetings of U.S. #OpenGov meetings since 2011, I've been the *only* advocate of #Participation ("Co-creation"). So I was surprised to read that @OpenGovPart feels @IAP2 standards are too "confusing"? Why didn't you ask me @IAP2USA?
And "closed"? It's still 13 Oct here!
Wow. 10 years of @opengovpart...a real labor of love for so many. In my view, it's all about the co-creation and the Action Plans, they keep it real. @josephpowell reflects on humility, power shifts and unusual partnerships on the open gov journey so far. https://t.co/ou36yveNLd
The Mayflower Compact was drafted and signed only 2 days after the Pilgrims sighted land.
It's amazing they were able to discuss and agree on a major document so quickly .. except when you remember that they were not distracted by smartphones: email, text-messages, social media.
Exactly 400 years ago (today), the Mayflower sighted Cape Cod and, from this spot, you'd have seen it sailing by, on its way to (now) Provincetown, where my ancestor, Stephen Hopkins, along with 40 others signed The Mayflower Compact .. the start of democracy in America!
@involveUK@ConUnit_UCL@demsoc@theRSAorg@mySociety The report says:
".. when talking about the process, stress that citizens’ assemblies are a tried and tested method"
Rather than "stress" that point, allow people to come to that conclusion by presenting *objective_evidence*.
So, where does it exist ..in simple form?
#metrics
@AndrewMannix So is there any survey data confirming this? --> That the level of public's Trust stayed the same?
Without data, it's opinion not fact.
"After five years, the city is no closer to achieving the primary objective of creating trust between police and the communities they serve."
@NDI@NDIcitizens@AmbDMitchell @nicolerowsell Clarification, please.
You want non-attendees who are interested in #betterdemocracy to "join the conversation" about the topics at #NDIGO .. but *without* an agenda link showing what specific topics are to be discussed?
Yes? Then you now know my suggestion for #betterinclusion
@YoungsRichard Yes, your perspective is "contrarian", but it is not "slightly" so.
Transparency, Participation, and Accountability (TP&A) are the 3 fundamental values of @OpenGovPart.
But, after I noted the trend to cite only T&A (w/o the P), a hi-level #OpenGov advocate called me a "troll".
