A lot of people have been asking how things are progressing with the SSG Alan Shaw Foundation, so I wanted to give y’all a quick update.
I had a great conversation today with the attorney who will be helping us get the legal side of everything squared away. That process is now moving forward, which is exciting because it means we’re getting closer to turning this from an idea into something tangible.
The next hurdle is funding.
Before we can start helping families, there are startup costs that come with building a nonprofit organization the right way. Filing fees, insurance, a website, and all the other things that happen behind the scenes before anyone ever sees the finished product.
My hope is that once we’re ready, we can raise those initial funds together while we’re waiting on our 501(c)(3) status.
I’ve been blown away by the number of people who’ve reached out wanting to help. Every message, every idea, every offer of support has meant more than you know.
We’re still at the beginning of this journey, but we’re moving forward.
One step at a time.

I think unless the Army was covering something up so let for their benefits, Id let sleeping dogs lie. Even if it's for less than stellar reasons, I'd respect the family's wishes. Obviously that all depends on the circumstances. Not to stir a hornets nest on the birb app, but this is an actual moral dilemma.
@garykoepnick@shipwreckedcrew Do you realize how many state level voting laws were changed by this process in the lead up to the 2020 election? State SoSs just showed up and agreed.
We need to rewind to a few minutes before this journalistic trolley car was set in motion. As a journalist, this decision should have been made before you decided to embed with THE ENEMY.
Before everyone jumps in and says "THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT ETHICS TRAINING FOR THE MILITARY IS!" No it is not. For the average US fighting man, they make split second decisions based on the LOAC and specific theater or AO ROE to figure out the best way them keep them and their teammates alive. The "ethical" decisions are made by men in suits and GOs who rarely feel their true consequences.
@BigDickBarclay Damn. That's like 3 dogs and a Sasquatch. Well insulated! I am sweating my ass off waiting on a replacement line set to show up for my little 2 ton split that I refuse to replace.
