Beware of fnr! Having constructed numerous E. coli mutants, we often lose the fnr gene (global anaerobic regulator). We get excited about the phenotype (lacks #hydrogenase), but are unable to complement. Also happened to strains from other labs. DOI 10.1371/journal.pone.0022830
