Before anyone thinks about shutting down an OPS you might want to consider the impact. More people using outside we have 400-600 visits a day. Also more people will die. If you dont care about that it will have a impact on the healthcare system. More overdoses in alleys in social housing a late responce will likely mean more people in long term care due to a loss of oxygen to the brain.95 % of people who overdose stay in our care so they dont end up in the hospital. We work with Detox and Recovery operaters to get help people get in to recovery. We help people with other emergency services like woundcare. We do pre employment and extensive training to build resumes. And then there is the fact that more people are dying out east after the shut down sites.

@Dallas_Brodie You are so mistaken and misinformed.
ANTIFA = anti fascist
So would that mean that all of those who opposed Hitler and Mussolini were all left-wing terrorists?
I am proudly ANTIFA!
@KenSimCity The world is protesting the genocide that we are seeing happen in GAZA. Canadians and governments at all levels must stand in solidarity with GAZA! Shame on you @KenSimCity for turning a blind eye! And The Westminster Tines shame on you as well for biased erroneous reporting!

Beautiful day to be out campaigning in the River District.
On Council, @SeanOrr will fight for more public amenities and transit connections to all corners of Vancouver.

@JulsBudau Considering the investigation is wrapped around fraud being perpetrated by sleazy pharmacists I’m not really understanding why PWUD & those on maint therapies are the target of this punitive action Oh Yeah I forgot PWUD are political fodder! We will only see the deaths increase😢
Great article. @vanpoli Mayor Kim's plan might change the DTES, but it won't improve residents' lives | Georgia Straight Vancouver’s source for arts, culture, and events https://t.co/vOqViXmbpQ
I stayed up late last night as my phone was being blown up by people in recovery who don’t know how they will manage their STABLE lives if they have to visit a pharmacist 4 times a day to take their prescriptions. A 🧵.
BC Conservative politicians like leader-in-waiting @ElenoreSturko, @AdamStirling, @AdamZivo and @JohnRustad4BC are excited to take credit for forcing the BC Government to make Prescribed Alternatives (they call it “safer supply”) a witnessed program.
They want credit. Let’s give it to them.
A quick recap:
➡️ The program was already being monitored, police were cracking down on participants who resold their drugs.
➡️ There’s no evidence (beyond Elenore & Zivo’s secondhand anecdotes) that PA are responsible for teens getting addicted to drugs - no more so than OTHER diverted meds, prescriptions in the family medicine cabinet, or bootlegged booze.
➡️ BC Coroners reports PROVE that hydromorphone (most common prescribed alternative) is not responsible for deaths in any age group.
So no Elenore, the change is not an admittance of disaster. It’s an admittance that everyone is sick and tired of your lying and rage-farming. And that, once again, people with substance use disorders don’t matter.
Yes, Adam Stirling, we are worried about people who were stable on PA returning to poisoned illicit drugs. You come off as smug in this post. Why? … do you not believe it? Do you think it’s good for people to be forced off the prescriptions that reduce their risk of death?
LET’S BE CLEAR: If this was actually because of concern over pain meds being resold on the streets you would have demanded that ALL opioids be taken in front of a pharmacist. But it’s not. It’s about punishing addicts.
At last count there were 3,665 people accessing Prescribed Alternatives to illicit opioids … less than 3% of the people who use illicit drugs in BC. And less than . 0006% of BC’s population. A few have been abusing the program … so then let’s make changes to prevent them from reselling their Rx.
But most people in the program don’t sell their Rx. They take it, they don’t take street drugs, their risk of death has dropped, they’ve gotten stable, they have jobs, homes, lives.
Questions for Elenore, the Adams & John:
➡️ How do you hold down a job if you need to visit a pharmacy 4 times a day to take an Rx?
➡️ How do you function if you live in a remote community and the pharmacy is 45 minutes away?
You forced this change based on HYPOTHETICAL HARMS that you guessed at, and now you’re going to cause ACTUAL HARM to people in recovery.
If there’s going to be a public inquiry I hope it’s into how much your constant promotion of the program contributed to demand on the streets, and how many people now turn back to poisoned illicit drugs because the bar to access a prescription is just too high.
THEN we can give credit where credit is due.
Congrats Elenore, Adam, Adam & John. You’re real winners.

@nationalpost There is no drug experiment. It's not about free drugs. IT IS about an alternate to a toxic street supply provided by dealers/cartels. These drugs have left "many dead." (16 000 in BC) People are not dying due to "safe supply." Ms. Sturko is incorrect. She likes self promotion.
WOW. @JohnRustad4BC and @Conservative_BC are REALLY not reading the room 🤯
Across the globe, including here in BC, people are watching in horror as Donald Trump punches down on people less fortunate.
➡️ He eviscerated foreign aid, including programs that provide relief in combat zones;
➡️ He withdrew the U.S. from the World Health Organization, which is working to prevent bird flu from turning into the next human pandemic;
➡️ he’s making major cuts to NOAA, which predicts extreme weather events, so people can be alerted before hurricanes, tornadoes and wildfires.
➡️ He froze funding for hospitals, schools, non-profits, research organizations (including CHILDREN’S CANCER RESEARCH) and pre-school programs;‼️AND MORE‼️
The thing all these attacks and cuts have in common? While they will impact everyone, the most harm will be to people living in poverty, dealing with illness, homelessness or financial hardship.
And INCREDIBLY, in the middle of this horror show, the BC Conservatives put out a news release once again calling a SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROJECT — one that will help people dealing with all those same challenges — a “dangerous drug den.”
“Housing” does not equal “drug den” John. Not only is that a shitty, stigmatizing statement, it’s plain WRONG. Stable housing helps people find and stay on a healthier path.
And guess what? Without it, you’ll continue to see a growing number of at-risk British Columbians living on the streets or in encampments. And as you’ve repeatedly shown, you hate that too. #Housing #HousingCrisis #bcpoli
@ForeverUnitedFU@keithbaldrey You know that organized crime, border security and everything you mentioned has zero to do with the tariffs right?
This is about economic control of our energy, fresh water & critical minerals.
The US needs to secure their borders as things going into the US is their problem.
