Good day yesterday hosting a tour of some of North London's oldest trees with tree and fungi friends from the Polish Tree Institute and the Woodland Trust. Great conversations around how we manage these trees and lessons learnt. @CityCorpHeath@InstytutDrzewa@WoodlandTrust
Invited to @phoenixparkopw by the Irish branch of the @ArbAssociation to present on management of veteran trees, urban tree issues and fungi. With @Alasdair_Tree & @johntree1981
Have you seen the magnificent black mulberry tree in the garden of @KeatsHouse ? It was selected as one of the 70 veteran trees to be part of the @QGCanopy . The tree dates back to the 17th Century and would have been there at the time Keats lived in the house.
@ldnphile Thanks Colleen, seemed to be well received, loads of very interesting questions afterwards. Always good to talk to local people about their local trees, particularly where they are invested with time and love for their surroundings.
A privilege for myself and colleague Alasdair Nicoll to be invited to give the Springett lecture for the Heath and Hampstead Society last night. I've been greatly inspired by the likes of Professor Oliver Rackham and Dr Merlin Sheldrake who have given this talk over the years.
@FungiandFlora Lots of Fistulina at base of oaks here in north London, but also some at height. Quite a few anamorphic forms of Fistulina. Still seeing laetiporus alao, but mostly all at height.
@FungiandFlora @fungi1st@Safernoc934 @KewMycology Marvellous, looks a great day out with a gray group of people, very jealous. Which species were you recording Matt?
Our first post pandemic guided walk at Hampstead for the Urban Tree Festival. (last one was 2019) Looking at some of our sites most interesting trees, veteran tree management, compaction, invasive pests & diseases, the wider fungal and saproxylic ecology and succession.
