Re-Turn spends about €6million a year on advertising and PR.

What about the fact that bin collections now cost more?

When the State writes the cheques, editorial independence stops being a given. This needs scrutiny.

Yesterday, I was delighted to be invited to present inside Dáil Éireann as part of the Women’s Coalition on Immigration.

The coalition has one simple request: publish crime data by nationality.

This is not radical. It is standard practice in several European countries, including Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands. Public policy should be based on evidence, not guesswork.

This fits in with a wider demand for transparency from Govt, on housing lists, public funding etc..

We have already that this Govt is allergic to transparency when Benefacts, was forced to shut down after State support was withdrawn.

A Government that withholds basic data cannot then lecture the public about “disinformation”.

Transparency is not dangerous.. secrecy is.

Every euro of public money should be traceable from tender to final payment.

This week, I'm preparing to submit my Tender to Payment Public Transparency Bill.

The aim is simple:

If public money is spent, the public should be able to follow it.

Who got paid?
What contract authorised the spending?
How much was paid?
What was delivered?

Too often, that information sits in different systems and cannot easily be connected.

This Bill aims to create the "golden thread" linking public spending from tender, to contract award, to contract, to purchase order, to payment.

If we can follow the money, we can ask better questions, improve accountability and deliver better value for taxpayers.

This has been a huge piece of work and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you soon.

Subject: Urgent: Accountability regarding your communications and the Free Speech Risk Assessment

Dear Minister O'Donovan,

As a taxpayer who directly funds your salary of over €180,000, I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction with your performance as Minister for Media and Communications. Given your significant compensation, it is an astonishing irony that your ability to communicate transparently with the public and journalists appears to be woefully inadequate.

I am writing to demand explicit answers on two critical matters:

First, your department is advancing highly restrictive new legislation, yet you have consistently refused to be transparent regarding the preparatory work behind it. You are required to explain exactly why you will not release or address the free speech risk assessment that was carried out in advance of introducing these draconian laws. The public has a right to know what risks to fundamental liberties were identified.

Second, you owe the public an explanation for your recent public comments, in which you derogatorily compared the intelligence of the Irish people to the character of Father Dougal from Father Ted. This condescending attitude toward the citizens you are supposed to represent is entirely unacceptable.

Let me remind you of your status: you are a public servant. You are accountable to the people who pay your wages, and you do not operate above our right to scrutiny.

I demand a direct, substantive, and timely reply to these questions. General public relations platitudes will not suffice.
