Saint Irenaeus, writing to the Gnostic heretics in Book 3, Chapter 2 of “Against Heresies” accurately describes the tactics of modern Protestant and Evangelical apologists.
When the Scriptures prove Protestants wrong, they appeal to the tradition of their Reformers (as central interpreters). And when one brings in real Tradition from the Apostles, they object that that Tradition has been manipulated.
Draw your own conclusions.
@SWOOZYgoblin278@OverEazy3@Alex_Ortodoxie James 1:26-27
“If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless.”
Perry told me the other day that my info I referenced from a book was wrong on a topic I was discussing. I provided screenshots showing the citations, and then he proceeded for another hour trying to gaslight me into thinking he wasn’t saying that I was wrong, but that what he personally knew about the topic didn’t align with what the book said therefore it appeared I was wrong.
This is the same guy who shames people for not reading the entire book. I show him from the book where he is wrong and he doubles down.
It’s pseudo-intellectualism, not rooted in genuinely wanting to learn, but just wanting to always be told he’s right. That’s all this Orthobro movement is.
James 1:26-27
“If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless.
Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”
A response to a priest offended by Dyer;
Please excuse Jay Dyer. He’s an exprotestant that pretends to be an Orthodox apologist. He is not. He is nothing more than a street performer making money off of unsuspecting Orthodox enquirers. The enquirers protect him with a boy like crush. He holds no rank and is not a theologian, nor is he a scholar in the Orthodox Church. Jay used to work for Alex Jones and his followers on X are mostly fighting age males that are misogynistic, antisemitic, and racist. His priest and bishop, ROCOR, choose the money Dyer brings the church over his heretical and immoral views. In debate, Dyer is often vile, condescending and uses obscene language. He uses straw man arguments in every debate. Many of our celebrity priests associate with Dyer because of his large number of followers. The majority of Orthodox Bishops and Priests do not approve or support Jay Dyer.
@Nicholai_Korea That’s not what anyone’s logic is when they argue for it. It’s based on the concept of original sin.
If that’s what people you argue with are saying, find better people to argue with.
@CovenantedOne@ShanePaisios@JLoseth77541 Yeah, my bishop warned us not to be a part of the Orthobro movement, that it’s not Orthodoxy. He’s in his late 60s so it was a bit surreal to hear him say Orthobro.
@navigatinglies@grok People on both sides are getting one-shotted by an AI bot confessing Christ. It’s going to be insane how many Christians fall for the false signs and wonders of the Beast/anti-Christ when they begin.
@Bman_138@CovenantedOne Yeah, I think it's the story of many people who just haven't shared. I'm sure that if more people spoke out clergy would be more pressured to disavow him and realize the same number he is bringing in, the same number he is turning away, if not more.
@theorthobear1 That’s what I’m surprised with; when you bring up basic Christian principles and morals you get called effeminate and other vile terms, as if this helps prove their point they are just angry small men.
Nothing to see here, just Jay and the online Orthodox community treating people like Christ would over not entertaining a debate for clicks.
I would not want to stand before Christ and have to answer why I called guy a fa*got and f*** you because they didn’t entertain my ego.
These guys are setting up a barrier for people to even consider the Orthodox faith and will have to answer for it. Lord have mercy. And for anyone wondering, no, most Orthodox are not like this; the internet radicalized this small group of loud voices. Please, go to an actual Church and experience the true kindness, peace, and joy Orthodoxy has to offer.
I’m sure that in the great Twitter War of 2026 I’m supposed to side with the OrthoBros against their opponents. But you know what?
The “OrthoBros” are an embarrassment and a stain on our Church. They often push genuine inquirers away and convert *nobody* to true spiritual life. I’ve been treated worse by the OrthoBro cult than I’ve ever been treated by atheists, Muslims, or Jews.
Their opponents of various confessions are 100% right about what they’re witnessing. They’re right about the total lack of fruit on display. They’re right about the personality disorders and the carnal, monstrous behavior.
I would vastly prefer to side with those who (allegedly) share my own faith than with those who do not. But the OrthoBro cult makes that impossible to do while still maintaining a sense of conscience and dignity.
To dismiss all feedback about one’s spiritual state as “piety signaling” is to announce, as loudly as possible, that one does not truly fear God. If someone criticizes you and they’re right, it takes humility to examine yourself and discern whether you *do* actually need to shape up.
It’s probably safe to dismiss one random person’s opinion of you if you’re not getting the same feedback from dozens of others, but if you’re hearing the same thing day in and day out then you should probably pay attention.
As a mentor of mine nearly half my life ago said: “If someone tells you you have a tail, you can probably just ignore them. If three people tell you you have a tail, you might want to turn around and take a look.”
Yep, and they have no concern for the souls of other people around them. It’s about winning an argument that they started in the first place. And by doing this they set up a barrier for people and turn them away from experiencing the true love of Christ in the Church.
Debating is not theology, nor is it a fruit of the Spirit, and especially their form of debate is like the school bully pulling up, asking for your lunch money, calling you vulgar names because you say no, beat you into submission, you give it to them to stop the harassment, and then they make fun of you for it. Pathetic behavior.
@RogueCenturion@thaddeusthought@Myropios Somehow him and his followers convinced the online world Jay IS Orthodoxy. Reality is, most Orthodox are very kind, gracious, and loving and dislike Jay just as much as we do.
