@500YearFamily Family institutional knowledge management or skill development in family councils/businesses -> facilitating that wealth creator in every generation.
Appreciate it.
Been thinking "what is the cost" is a weaker question than "is the cost too great."
The latter helps to measure what really matters. The former just sets the stage.
The best result of an idea is an artifact. Something you can see, feel, assess, break, share, and point back to.
Otherwise, it just remains an idea. And that's not worth much.
You don't have to build to sell.
Sure, build to sell
or
Build to learn
Build to share
Build to forget
Build to change
Build to explore
Build to express
Build to overcome
Build to remember
You are the builder - you choose your purpose.
Many leaders I have worked with thought being tenacious and uncompromising was sufficient to lead.
It got things done, sure, but seldom did it provide long-term growth. It mostly promoted resentment and disloyalty from people who got run over.
I have only two hands. I can hold on tightly to only two things at a time before it becomes a balancing act.
It's not the reaching for new heights that concerns me. It's letting go of what I have in my grasp already, in hopes that I can take hold of what is next, and better.
People stink at multitasking.
Folks know this. And they know when you are not present with them. Distracted by phones, whatever.
I think that we have just decided collectively to be okay with being only partially present with others.
One of the differences I've seen between healthy and unhealthy teams
Healthy - members want to know how they best contribute to success
Unhealthy - members feel the need to share every time someone else is not successful
Focus is such a powerful state because it forces you to optimize for one outcome.
There may be lots of data, variables, and descriptions floating about, but there is only one measure of success at that moment.
In a 7-second world, it's deliberate presence.
Risk isn't just about uncertain dangers in the future.
It's also about the present dangers that we tolerate right now.
And the potential flourishing we forgo by holding onto the danger we know.
Innovation and creativity are wasteful, so they do not thrive in rigid outcome expectations.
If your goal is to explore and experiment, focus on getting your processes and systems right - prescribing outcomes ruin the experiment.
Knowing that outsourcing or hiring will help you scale your organizational impact is easy.
Actually delegating core functions in ways that maintain efficiency is much harder.
