A good study in how to spot AI "timelapses/art". I went through /this/ video, but there are general things you can apply to other videos/images.

1.First of all, actually incomprehensible text in the menus. From a distance or a quick scroll past, it looks passable but look any further and it's all just smears. Pause it whenever a menu opens up and see what I mean.

2. No erasing, no canvas flipping, no rotating, no trying out different poses. Each new body part seems to be bolted onto the last in the correct position with no thought to flow or movement.

3. Incongruous skills in different parts of the sketch. Body is messy, hair appears perfectly first try. Someone that confident in drawing/lining hair wouldn't be troubled by sketching the rest of the body to a similar level.

(This point I think is the most important to notice. If someone's rendering skills look very polished and practiced, but other areas are inexplicably less confident/straight up missing, it's usually a good sign that it's AI.)

4. Uses cross on the face to denote eyeline, doesn't follow it. Eye and eyebrow appears lined and coloured instantly

5. Line-art kind of just appears?? looks like it's trying to mimic playing with layer styles?? For some reason it turns it white then BAM lineart.

Doesn't get rid of the original "sketch" lines when "final" lines are done. If that was me I wouldn't know WHERE I was, I have to lower the opacity, erase or hide the OG sketch layer so I know what tf I'm colouring.

Speaking of which if you try and follow the hair/jacket/shoulder area it's a fucking mess. Lapel blends into hair blends into shirt and back again. A hair strand going across the face kind of just appears at a perpendicular angle out of nowhere.

6. God just so many opening of random windows and tool bars for no reason. The "navigation" window has no idea what's happening, just random shite thrown in there every now and again.

7. Colour appears fully rendered, like someone is erasing a layer on top of an already rendered image. It seems to want to put the face in shadow and have a harsh terminating line across the chest, like it's harsh top down lighting, but the shadow form doesn't make much sense at all (to me).

AI has gotten very convincing and believable and I hate it. There are lots of things in this example that are missing, that someone who hasn't done the typical drawing process would miss.

Hell, I've been caught out a few times liking something then having a little scratch in my brain like "wait a second...." at least this page is very open about using AI generation, so you can see and practice noticing the tells.

There are far too many artists on here that use AI and don't disclose it. Don't go seek them out, don't go making call out posts, you could be wrong and ruin someone's income. Just block them and move on.

New paper in Nature Human Behaviour makes two important points:

First, LLMs reduce the linguistic diversity of how people express themselves.

This is perhaps not super surprising at this stage. But the authors also show something deeper.

Since the words we use carry information about who we are, LLMs are also erasing the identity signals that we embed in our writing.

LLMs strip out the soul of our writing.
