TIL: An archivist visited a Texas prison in 1995 and determined that the un-airconditioned solitary confinement room was "totally inadequate" - FOR OLD RECORDS.
25 years later we still have people living in those conditions deemed inadequate for paper.
Rep. John Lewis was a hero to every person involved in the justice movement. I remember when he spoke out against the wrongful execution of Troy Davis and testified at the Georgia clemency hearing. His legacy will live on through all the lives he changed and people he inspired.

Just for some context, in 2016, “suffocation” was the second most prevalent method of suicide among black males, behind firearms. And since I don’t think dudes aren’t sticking a pillow over their own faces, willing to say hanging is the likely method.
@greycole05@BallerJ702@latimes agree they're unlikely choose an ironic exit, but you failed to account for predominant suffocation techniques: asphyxia via ether Inhalation or "the exit bag"
TX is better than the #DeathPenalty. We failed to prove that today.
Tonight I’ll pray for the victims of violent crime, the victims of the death penalty, and the families that are left behind.
Our work to abolish the death penalty continues. #txlege#BillyWardlow#CJReform
@keribla From the letter he wrote requesting an execution delay:
“I came to death row a scared boy who made poor choices; I will leave death row a man that others admire because I weathered the storms of life with the help of people that loved me. We should all be so fortunate.” 💔
While Texas is experiencing record COVID related deaths @GovAbbott could not be bothered to stay the execution of #BillyWardlow wholly within his power. The state of TX has just taken Billy Wardlow’s life, for a crime he committed at 18.
This must stop #EndtheDeathPenalty
Texas executed #BillyWardlow in the midst of a pandemic, on a day when TX saw a record-high number of deaths from COVID-19. The cognitive dissonance is too much. What a shameful day.
i foolishly thought the abomination inflicted upon mitesh patel and christopher young was my nadir
the state-sanctioned homicide of #BillyWardlow?
enraged.
gutted.
in despair.

As the state is about to execute Billy Wardlow, I keep re-reading his last letter to me.
"Thank you... for showing me that I have worth, too - no matter what others might say or think," he wrote. "You gave me back my humanity."
He'll never actually get to read the story.
