i think it's important to note that the correspondents dinner wouldn't be at a White House ballroom even if it were built. The dinner is not a White House event. It's a WHCA event. Also, Trump had never attended before (would he host a dinner he didn't attend).

RIP 💔 The world just lost the mathematical genius behind GPS technology.
Gladys West, the mathematical titan who developed the essential foundation for GPS, has died at the age of 95.
Born in 1930 in rural Virginia, West spent her childhood picking crops before a scholarship to Virginia State College launched her into a 42-year career with the U.S. Navy.
As one of only four Black professionals at the Naval Proving Ground in 1956, she worked in quiet brilliance to solve the complex algorithms that account for the Earth's gravitational irregularities. Her calculations were not just academic exercises; they were the indispensable building blocks for the satellite navigation system that billions of people rely on today for everything from global shipping and aviation to daily commutes and smartphone apps.
For decades, West’s monumental contributions remained a "hidden" chapter of American history, recognized only late in her life through inductions into the U.S. Air Force Hall of Fame and the prestigious Prince Philip Medal. Her legacy is one of profound perseverance, having navigated the systemic barriers of the Jim Crow South to redefine how we perceive and navigate our planet. Though her work powers the digital maps on every smartphone, she famously retained a personal preference for paper maps, a humble nod to her roots and the physical world she spent a lifetime mapping. West passed away peacefully surrounded by family, leaving behind a world that is infinitely more connected and precise because of her brilliant mind.

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
BREAKING: The family of Alex Pretti releases a powerful statement about his senseless murder at the hands of Trump's masked fascist goons.
Please share this far and wide...
"We are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital," the family said in a statement provided to CNN.
"Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman."
"The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed."
"Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you."
It is our responsibility as Americans to get the truth out there. Petti was not attempting to harm anyone. He was swarmed, beaten, and disarmed by vicious federal agents who were looking for someone to hurt. Once they had removed his gun — which he had a legal permit to carry — they executed him in cold blood by firing numerous bullets into him. Then, the Trump administration proceeded to immediately falsely smear him as a "terrorist" who wanted to carry out a mass shooting against law enforcement. They're utterly shameless.
“He cared about people deeply and he was very upset with what was happening in Minneapolis and throughout the United States with ICE, as millions of other people are upset,” said Pretti's father Alex. “He thought it was terrible, you know, kidnapping children, just grabbing people off the street. He cared about those people, and he knew it was wrong, so he did participate in protests.”
Rest in power Alex. The rest of us will carry on the fight.

Heartbreaking. A Minneapolis family driving home from their son’s basketball game in their car with six kids, including a 6-month-old, was hit by tear gas & flash-bangs from ICE agents, leaving their baby struggling to breathe and hospitalized.
This is unacceptable. ICE is making our state less safe.
I’ve watched this interview 10 times today. So grateful to hear these words from interim head coach Terry Smith of Penn State. Powerful!!
And a great reminder for all of us that just want to focus on the CFP-and nothing else “matters”. This was a SPECIAL day for this coach and his players-not just winning the Pinstripe Bowl-but having another chance to compete TOGETHER.
His gratitude for his players-his school-and to the SPORT were heard loud and clearly. This interview hit me hard watching it live-even a bigger fan of his now!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts coach-many of us needed to hear them!
