Practical science-based life hacks to survive the build-up season and prevent mango madness in the tropics. A 2020 @ANU_CPAS project by @meowdee - acc inactive.
It’s now more critical than ever that the people who are actually knowledgeable about the world’s crises speak out and with their names attached. @rodl@willozap@ANU_CPAS

Get ready for rain #NT. A major trough will bring thunderstorms & rain to southern NT this Thursday and Friday including in #AliceSprings. Build-up conditions in the North should see showers over #Darwin and the Top End later this week. Forecasts here https://t.co/7s2Br8w839
Totally thrilled to have had this chat with the excellent @jp_spry from @abcdarwin on Saturday about this little side project. If you missed it, or live down south, you can listen from 4:44:55 at https://t.co/8OwFTFxj2k #tropicalproblems#buildupseason
Tropical Problems: The myth-busting edition is up at https://t.co/DgNKwQbmEJ! In this vid, @DrMattBrearley and Lou De Mattia from @EnviroCentreNT, bust some heat (and mould) misconceptions...and Dr @Mozziebites explains why some mozzies have a foot fetish. #tropicalproblems
Culex annulirostris (a freshwater mozzie) is certainly very abundant and alongside the equally problematic Aedes vigilax (a saltwater mozzie) there is plenty to prepare for as warm weather welcomes a return of these pesky bloodsuckers to NT! 🦟
It's Election Day in the NT! 📝
It would be undemocratic of me not to let you have a say - when talking about the little biting bugs, do you say 'midge' like fridge, or 'midgie' like...'fridgie'?
Culex annulirostris is the most common biting mosquito in the NT and bites people, birds and other animals around dusk. Here's an infographic of 3 mozzie facts, and 3 ways to avoid bites (full video at https://t.co/IBARDtrg9P)!
🤔 Don't know if it's necessarily a cause for celebration, but like all creatures great and small, mozzies play a role in our ecosystem 🦟Hear @mozziebites talk about why mozzies bite and what you can do to avoid this in our video at https://t.co/IBARDtrg9P on #WorldMosquitoDay.
Its #WorldMosquitoDay and while we should be mindful of the global burden of mosquito-borne disease, we should also reflect on how much we have to learn about the ecological role of mosquitoes too. Still lots to learn! https://t.co/pmNl3GcuNj 🔬🦟
This is. Legit. The most uncomfortable video I've watched today.
I think @Mozziebites and I would both agree this would be pretty close to hell on earth.
#notjusttropicalproblems
What's worse than being hot and sticky? Probably being hot, sticky and covered in mosquito or midge bites😣 In this episode, I speak to @Mozziebites about what you can do to avoid bites. Full video (where you can learn about why they hurt so much) at https://t.co/IBARDtrg9P
If you're new to this account and interested in the whole #buildupseason malarkey, here's a pretty good #CuriousDarwin explainer from @abramm97 @abcdarwin about what it means to 'go troppo'. https://t.co/Y9zZxIV2E0
If there's a time to start thinking about preparing for the #buildupseason, this is probably it - especially if you're going to make some tweaks around the home. Watch our vids about keeping yourself cool, and your place cool at https://t.co/7P5bCKxYo3 #tropicalproblems
Phew, what a warm night in #Darwin! 23.3°C last night, compliments of the high humidity levels. A turn in the season is slowly commencing, but we will still see dry surges in coming weeks. More humidity for this weekend though, with even a light morning coastal shower possible.
Top Enders, are you feeling the humidity creeping back in? Don't crank up the AC just yet! Here's a infographic recap of my chat with Lou De Mattia @EnviroCentreNT about green ways to cool where you live. Full video at https://t.co/qhiRuI2BZ9 #tropicalproblems#buildupseason
