#WorldOceansDay. The Faroe islands grind matters every day. Pilot whales are intelligent with complex social bonds. The grind causes brutal deaths pregnant females & calves killed. Meat has toxic mercury/PCBs.This isn't survival; it's cruel, unnecessary tradition. #StopTheGrind
Tomboi catching up with Benjamin, who’s been by his side from tiny orphan to big bull.
We rescued Tomboi nearly 23 years ago, when he was just days old. He remained in our care for the better part of a decade before reclaiming his place in the wild. By this point, the years he’s lived wild far outnumber the time he spent with us, but he has never forgotten the people who raised him or the place he calls home. He still drops by Ithumba periodically to visit Benjamin and the team.
In the Samburu dialect, Tomboi means ‘boy without a father.’ It was a fitting name for the tiny orphan we rescued all those years ago. No matter how big he grows or how much time passes, Tomboi will always have his SWT family standing behind him. Watch to the end to see a photo of baby Tomboi; he’s in the red blanket, next to the infamous Wendi!

Idaho’s wolves & pups are being killed year-round hunting & trapping, snares, night-hunting technologies & financial incentives/bounties funded in part by the state. Now even cyanide poison devices are returning to public lands.
Today would have been Daphne Sheldrick's 92nd birthday. My mother never set out to be a titan of conservation. She began the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to continue my late father’s vision, guided by a love for all wild creatures and a desire to make a better world for them. She weathered so many challenges in her time, but remained unwaveringly true to herself and her beliefs.
Building success on success, never straying from this mission, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has grown into the far-reaching, multi-faceted conservation organisation we are today. I know Daphne and David would be so proud of all we have achieved.
It has been eight years since Daphne left us, but she remains in the forefront of our minds. She was an unassuming woman who achieved so much just by pursuing her passion for animals and the natural world.
Daphne always said, “You reap what you sow” — and my goodness, what has been sown over the years.

Bears are being killed for ornamental caps - and the MoD’s orders have jumped by 336% under the Labour government.
Records obtained by PETA show that the MoD ordered 96 bearskin caps from January to September 2025, compared with 22 in 2024.
Bears in Canada are baited with sweet food, shot with guns or crossbows, and their pelts are sold to fur auction houses.
The MoD must stop using taxpayer money to fund this violence and instruct cap-makers to develop a modern faux fur cap now.
Giant factory ships are vacuuming up krill from the Southern Ocean to feed industrial demand for supplements and fish farms. Meanwhile wildlife pays the price. #KrillWars
In one of the most significant single-day killing events in the history of the Faroe Islands’ dolphin hunts, more than 700 Atlantic white-sided dolphins were driven ashore and killed on Wednesday across three separate drives – surpassing two-thirds of the approximately 1,000 marine mammals killed across the entirety of last year.
The hunts, known locally as the grind, took place at multiple locations across the archipelago, which sits roughly 200 miles north of Scotland. Hundreds of dolphins were herded towards the shoreline before being killed using hooks and long knives in scenes that quickly drew international condemnation from conservation groups.
The day’s events were compounded by what participants themselves acknowledged was a critical shortage of spinal lances – equipment that is legally mandatory for the killing of dolphins in the islands. In their absence, multiple animals were killed using knives alone.
Reports from observers on the ground have described scenes of ‘prolonged suffering’ in which dolphins were crushed against rocks, driven over by vessels, and struck by boat propellers – the apparent consequence of both the equipment shortage and an insufficient number of trained participants.
A total of 706 dolphins were killed across the three hunts. The largest single drive took place in Tórshavn, the islands’ capital, where 406 animals were killed.
SOCIOPATH OF THE DAY! 😡 😡

To Edmonton residents and @AndrewKnack Lucy’s pain was visible, your empathy was optional, and you chose to look away. You look at Lucy but not looking at her needs the herd. Show you can be better:fight for her rescue, sanctuary care, for dignity. Silence is complicity.
