Six projects from the last few weeks that caught our attention:
A wildfire analysis prototype that maps the fire’s spread over time and tracks hot spots, made with Opus 5.5.

The Sahara Desert contains the strongest evidence that a GREAT FLOOD actually happened 🌊
This video shares smoking-gun evidence that a catastrophic flood blasted through the Sahara👇🏻
This is not wind erosion. These striations are textbook examples of water erosion, combined with inexplicably massive current ripples. The ocean was here 💯, and tens of millions of years more recently than Scientists had ever thought possible (hence why they never thought to look for the evidence in the first place!)
Like I always say, look and think for yourself
Nepal warns a lake has broken its banks, and China suspends flood rescue efforts near its border over 'real possibility' of secondary disaster. Follow live updates: https://t.co/1jqWN0VgSV
NEW: Rescue teams are racing against the clock in Nepal as they search for survivors after a wall of water, mud and debris tears through communities near the Tibet border. At least 65 Americans are among those still missing, according to officials in Nepal.
"The floods came in suddenly and exploded like a bomb," one survivor says.
Security video shows people with only seconds to react as the flood sweeps away vehicles, buses and buildings. Officials now believe a powerful landslide, potentially triggered by part of a glacier breaking off, unleashed an avalanche of ice and rock that caused the flooding.
The Red Cross says at least 10,000 families have lost their homes, while buried roads and destroyed bridges are making some devastated areas accessible only by helicopter.
How exactly did the mudslide at the Nepal-China border on August 26, 2026, occur? This video uses satellite maps to explain the entire process in detail and includes both Chinese and English subtitles.
This is what a GLOF looks like in motion: a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood, sometimes called a Jökulhlaup (Icelandic for "glacier run").
Basically: meltwater builds up in a basin trapped against or beneath a glacier. Eventually the ice dam gives way, and all that pent-up water rushes out; sometimes over the course of a day or more.
At Columbia Glacier, this happens almost like clockwork, roughly once a year, with the lake taking about a day and a half to fully drain. No roads, no homes in the path; so it mostly happens quietly, without anyone downstream even noticing.
Compare that to Juneau, where GLOFs along the Mendenhall River actually threaten homes and residents in the valley each year. Serious flood-mitigation work has gone into protecting the community there.
Watching that volume of water suddenly break free from under a glacier is still humbling.
Glaciers aren't the frozen, unmoving things people picture. They're alive, shifting, releasing; a reminder that even "solid" landscapes are anything but static.

I thank Chinese leader Xi Jinping for his congratulations to Ukraine on our most important national holiday. Independence is an unconditional value for Ukrainians, as it is for all other sovereign nations. We appreciate that over these 35 years, we have built relations with China based on mutual respect and full recognition of the values of our peoples. We count on further cooperation and on China playing a strong diplomatic role in bringing Russia’s war against our country to an end. Peace can be our shared achievement.
