Today, we launched Team Texas Public Schools.
Texas Public Schools are in crisis, so we’re building a movement for Texans who love their public schools and are ready to fight for them. We’ve assembled a toolbox so you can be part of growing this movement.
Whether you’re a parent, a teacher, a student, a school administrator, or just a proud product of Texas public schools, we want to hear from you, and we want to work with you. This is NOT a fundraising effort. It’s bigger. It’s our last best chance to save Texas Public Schools.

Rep. @JamesTalarico statement on the school finance deal, which provides a $0 increase to the Basic Allotment:
"The schoolhouse is burning to the ground — and instead of grabbing the fire hose, Texas Republicans are throwing a cup of water on the flames."

If you have a child in public schools that is not in special education, if you are a first or second year teacher, or an employee that is not a teacher - HB2 CSB has ignored your existence for funding. Only experienced teachers & sped students win. ESAs passed, we can do better.
Oh, snap. Bucey: We're going to give you money for vouchers if you're poor, but we learned last week we're not when it comes to expanding health care. Vouchers, good. Medicaid expansion, bad. #txlege#txed
@BucyForTexas — thank you for your poise, sensibility, and wisdom in standing up for Texas public schools. Striking this amendment was not just common sense, it was necessary. We’re grateful for your leadership on the floor. #txlege#PublicEd
I just filed an amendment to block wealthy families from using the voucher scam as a private school tuition discount — Republicans voted it down.
No one making $160,000+ needs help covering private school tuition.
This is common sense. It should've been an easy yes.
Students with disabilities make up ~14% of enrollment but over 25% of removals. The system says safety comes first—yet SPED remains underfunded + underserved. If we truly prioritized it, we’d prevent so many of the issues we claim to be reacting to.

In one breath: “We prioritize safety first—even if it means removing a child.” In the next: “Special Ed has been deplorable & underserved.” When will we realize that if we prioritized SPED, many of these issues would be prevented in the first place?

"We are so fortunate to have parent voice in special education." - @AnnaForLISD
During the #LISDBoard meeting, Board VP Smith explained how meeting with legislative staffers has helped tell the story of how SPED funding impacts student outcomes.
The '22-23 numbers are out. Special Education is still the most underfunded program in the whole #txed school finance system.
@GregAbbott_TX is hoarding our $$$ in a corrupt voucher scam to pay back billionaire donors while our kids go without the education they deserve. #txlege
Those are Rs protesting against the attempt to dissolve pub-Ed & use vouchers to back into segregation. Rs all over TX are tired of a few billionaires trying to control TX. Integrity shouldn’t be for sale. There are fiscal conservatives that support pub-Ed. Look at our history.
