无奈走出国门
到了5月6日上午9时许，我突然觉得气氛不对。我的电话又出了故障，打不出去也打不进来，电脑也出了问题。我去小区门外超市买中午的食物，发现小区内有不少陌生人，他们目光异常，使我感到又出事了，很像2007年2月我赴美国领奖前夕的情况了。我中午饭也没来得及吃，假牙也没来得及带，两��� 空空，只取出电脑的硬盘（里面有三本书稿，我不能放弃）。我把硬盘放在内衣兜里，匆匆地从小区后门离开了家。我这次外出，完全是为了艾滋病人用鲜血和生命换来的事件，不能白白地费去。不然2007年3月，我赴美国领取“生命之音”奖，很多美国要人、权贵出面留我，居住美国安度晚年，我没有接受，仍坚持回国了，岂料有近二年过着如此的生活呢？

我这个风烛残年的老人，非万不得已，不会只身流浪在外地，这次盲目外出，不知所从，只是为了把这些资料（艾滋病疫情的三本书）留给后人。苍苍大地，茫茫人海，何处是我的归宿？

我80多岁行走蹒跚，多么���难，离开家到成都，最后到广州。住在一个农村，天天修改书稿，此处离大学城很近，有不少志愿者和大学生来帮助我，他们每天都有两到三人协助我为书稿打字，这给了我莫大的安慰。但是这时我多次流泪，不断思考，我并不是不想回家，是因揭露艾滋病疫情避的我不能回家。

后来我只能继续为艾滋弱势群体说话，救助他们，往日的防艾工作，一切活动都是我自费付出，我不敢收任何人给我的钱，即便情面难却时收下钱之后，也要改日再把钱还他。比如北京爱知行万延海2000年8月的一天，来郑州给我送钱，他两次给我两万八千元，到2003年冬我从邮局寄给他3万，多给他2千元作为2年来的利息。我为艾滋病受害者呐喊，是一个医生的职责，为什么要对我进行各种打压、造谣和诋毁？为什么对我的工作进行阻扰？甚至在农村疫区悬赏500元举报我，阻止我进入艾滋村，我往贫困地区给贫病民众邮寄书籍、衣物，经常会大量、多次的丢失。我的电话经常打不通，我出门经常有人跟踪。如此种种，令人难忍！

我想来想去，我不知哭了多少次！我权衡了利与弊，我想本人若无声无息地死去，我手里的资料便石沉大海，而且外界一无所知。最后我决定出走。我托香港的朋友帮我联络，请他往国外给我2007年认识的朋友打了个电话，说我已经离开了家，无处可归，需要出国。7月中旬与美国有关人土取得联系，7月下旬开始办外出手续，有朋友转托在美国的华人组织，请他们派人来接我出国。

8月7日离开了广州白云机场，途中经三次转机，8日抵达目的地。我的心中一块巨石落了地，接纳我的是山东同乡，住在他们家里，他们全家都对我的生活照顾得不错，住了半年多，我非常感谢他们 。

2010年3月，我被哥伦比亚大学聘为访问学者，由外地搬往纽约，住在一所公寓里，我深居简出，要尽心尽力，把我的书稿编写好。

自古人生谁无死？我不怕死，我怕的是手头这些关于中国艾滋疫情的真实资料被湮没。我这次外出，是为了不让艾滋病人用鲜血和生命换来的病例白费，之后三本书全出版了，还修订增版了《高洁的灵魂》一书。

自2009年走出国门，十年多了！骨肉亲人或阴阳相隔或天各一方！身处异国他乡，生活不惯，言语不通，这里来很多中国人，来历各种各样，无人知晓，因此我处境也相当复杂，漫漫长夜间！可谓万里西风夜正长，断肠人在天涯！年老多病的身体，多年来靠药物维持生存，耳聋眼花，乏力嗜睡，行走蹒跚，精力、体力均不支，所以我无力去参加他们的社会活动，只有埋头整理书本，来度过我人生最后的时光。可怕的是近两年多，我因肺部疾病卧床吸氧气，但仍想尽力给后人留下我一生逃难的知识。明知来日无多，2019年除夕夜时，我想念自己的孩子，她们毕竟是我身上掉下的肉，写了一首诗：

《思念》
我的夜晚是你的白天，
当我思念时你们进入睡眠。
九十二岁的我思念无定时间，
回想着你们幼年的小脸，
活���无暇的行动，
奶声奶气的呼喊，
这是当年的乐景，
如今留在梦幻之间。

Today, 36 years ago, I left Communist China and arrived at Austin TX. After a 23-hour flight with two stops and after having gone through years of tyranny, oppression, poverty and indoctrination, I was so excited and happy that I finally made it to America, "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave.”

I did not have much when I arrived. I was skinny and weighed only 98 pounds. I had a few clothes and books, $100 in my pocket that I borrowed from friends, and I was $1200 in debt to my U.S sponsor for air ticket and graduate school fees. I could not speak English fluently, but I was determined to work hard to achieve my American Dream.

Today, I am living the American dream: a loving husband (whom I met on the first day), three great adult children, self-employed working from home, live in the Granite State with my favorite motto “Live Free or Die” and I am running for US Congress in #NH02.

I am so blessed in this great country, and I am forever grateful for the opportunities I had. I hope America still holds the same promise for people who came here for freedom!
