Writing in Measure, @whiskeypaper, @jellyfishreview, @rejectionlit and other now defunct little lit mags - From Mississippi, been to Arkansas, now in Texas
Glad to have a story up in @rejectionlit today. What a fitting venue for this story, which received 38+ rejections before Rejection Letters gave it a home. Here's The Phlebotomist's Tale:

The TikTok-ification of music promotion is fascinating to me. I think it's made music more accessible in many ways.
Ella Langley's Choosin' Texas has been topping the charts fueled by TikTok content of Ella Fellas celebrating their love for her. (it's also a great song)
Herb Alpert's Ladyfingers went viral 60 years after it was recorded and built a new fanbase for his music.
@KaceyMusgraves has been chronically online hyping her (amazing) Middle of Nowhere album with memes, Armadillo costumes, and clips, clips, and more clips of her performing. (I've watched them all)
And up-and-coming musicians like @thebraxtonkeith have designed album releases entirely around keeping their TikTok and social feeds fed.
And it's all working. They're skipping radio playlists and making their into our own playlists through the double taps of social media feeds.
One of my producers for @tcreporter, Scott Ray has been covering a lot of music for @TexasMonthly lately when he's not traveling the back roads with me, and he's doing a helluva job.

Flatland Cavalry is at a tipping point after more than a decade of recording, releasing, and performing nostalgia-infused country music. https://t.co/3OP0TTnsGy
The arguments over what is and isn't Country music are so tired.
That said, I'm really digging @chaparelle and this POV on where they sit in the genre.

A final point that I *hope* is obvious from the whole of my work, but may not be obvious if you only read individual snippets: I have no idea whether our polls (or any polls) polls be "right", too good for Harris, or too good for Trump.
No one does.
Being Dead is one of the most unique bands to emerge from Austin’s music scene in years. Why?
You're going to have to read to find out.

Sex with Godzilla! Anxiety about self-worth! Wasted waking days! @tscottray's piece on Being Dead is as playful as the band itself. @TexasMonthly https://t.co/Kbqzy7eIoB
Boarding the plane for Wisconsin, Usha Vance holds a copy of Daniel Mason’s “North Woods.”
On Amazon, it’s described as a “magisterial & highly inventive novel” that “asks the timeless question: How do we live on, even after we’re gone?”

In Bret Anthony Johnston's new novel "We Burn Daylight," star-crossed lovers narrate a story of romance amid a standoff between a religious cult and the law. https://t.co/JEC7HFM3kN
