#Chicago never looked better in January. Thanks to my pal and colleague @ChicagoJoeWGN for this spectacular shot this afternoon on a balmy 53° day, more than 40° warmer than this date a year ago! #Januarythaw
The holiday break is over! I am hopeful that educators everywhere feel rested, and happy that kids will be back in the safe environment of a school and classroom where they are loved.
I'm comfortable giving a student who needed 4 attempts to master a skill the same grade as the #student who only needed 1 attempt.
'If' a student learns is more important to me than 'when.'
“Finish each day & be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders & absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely & with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”
R.W. Emerson
When you’re doing your “new year, new me” thing can you please resolve to stop conflating your students’ poverty with their will to learn, literacy “levels” (whatever that means), & engagement in school. Poverty is neither identity, nor destiny. ❤️Love, A Teacher Who Grew Up Poor
#ThoughtForTheDay Holding a student after school simply as punishment may work for some kids, but not all kids. You know what does? Using that time to establish a genuine & sincere relationship by sitting w/them & spending time listening, sharing & teaching...via #StopRightNow39
