Bay Area native (we exist!). Equally comfortable in a dive bar as seat 1A on an aircraft (remember those?). Goes from Thomas Keller to tots in a heartbeat.
@Molson_Hart The tail number you referenced (N914AN) is a 24 year old 737-800 – not a MAX-8. This speaks to maintenance issues with the aircraft (hello, AA) not the manufacturing quality issues currently plaguing (new) Boeing aircraft.
Felt important to note the distinction there.
@christapeterso Umbrellas become useless in even moderate wind. Gave up on them (and embraced the full rain suit, pants included) a few years ago.
It's a goofy look, but it Just Works.
Every DOT in America knows about the list of design choices that Hoboken has used to eliminate *all* road deaths for 7 consecutive years
Every time our DOTs repave a road without this list they *knowingly* choose to continue killing 40,000 Americans per year instead
@WonkoAdams@mulegirl These are all problems, but not the reason things are closing left and right here. Commercial rent is out of control, even though there are tons of vacancies.
Imagine charging $11K/mo in rent to a dive bar at 17th and Capp St.
Pull it up on Street View and look around.
@mulegirl We desperately need a vacancy tax with teeth (not the meaningless $250/linear foot of storefront).
Everything is closing because of insane rents.
Landlords are free to charge whatever they want, but vacancy needs to be taxed as a percentage of the offered lease rate.
