"Let us build a solidarity bridge to address the critical challenges facing the continent (e.g., water access, food security, governance, climate change, disease, and employability), we need to do all this from a local knowledge persective."
- A. Kusi-Appiah.
So let me get this straight: The Ontario government is okay with spending an average of $2.8 Billion/year on highways...but isn't okay with spending an average of just $5 Million/year on life-saving healthcare coverage for uninsured people?
Where is the humanity?
When times are tough — I believe your government should be working for you.
That's why we pushed the Liberal govt and delivered on real changes.
And with today's budget, we secured measures that will help millions of Canadians.
I promise — this is just the first step.
Congrats to mayor-elect @_MarkSutcliffe. You ran a great campaign @cmckenney. I hope we haven't seen the last of you in politics. All the best to all the winners tonight and to those brave enough to put their name on the ballot.
A few thoughts going into the election. Settle in, this is a long thread:
The Ottawa Citizen in one breath dismisses my candidacy, reasoning that our austerity message didn't catch on in this government town. In another breath it warns of a coming recession. 1/13
The resignation of Liz Truss is a reminder of the disaster Conservative governments are for working people.
And a stark reminder that they will always put rich CEOs ahead of you and your family.
The comments attributed to @_MarkSutcliffe around the defunding of popular attractions such as the Ottawa Tulip Festival, Franco Ontarien Festival and the Pride Parade are further proof he is not up to the job of being mayor - the City's chief ambassador. 1/7
Something stinks about the announced hiring of the new Police Chief. The fact that it’s @_MarkSutcliffe's election co-chair @Eli_ElChantiry doing the hiring & it’s being pushed through with unseemly haste on a Friday just days before the election makes it smell very bad. 1/3
I have concerns with the financial model that calls on the City to take on more than $300 million in debt with the promise that future property taxes on the planned three residential towers would eventually make the overall redevelopment project revenue neutral for the City. 2/7
