HB501 (Rep. Bridger Bolinder-R / Sen. Scott Sandall-R) would force water providers seeking state money or loans to collect local revenue equal to 1.5–3% of the area’s median adjusted gross income (MAGI) × number of connections.

Higher-income neighborhoods = higher required rates.

Passed the House. Stalled in the Senate. Expected back in 2027.

Meanwhile many cities already raid utility enterprise funds for their general funds (SLC is a frequent example).

Why are Utah "conservative" Republicans increasing water taxes again like liberal Democrats?

We need new laws banning cities from stealing utility money to their General Funds and so-called utility franchise fees on city roads, not more water taxes.

Salt Lake City transfers roughly $20 million/yr from its utility enterprise fund to the its General Fund. Over 30 years, roughly $600+ million for infrastructure goes missing. Many cities are stealing money from their utility accounts.

Why is Rep Bridger Bolinder-R and Senator Scott D. Sandall-R promoting a new water tax based on income?

Bolinder/Sandall-R's HB501 propose at least a 3% of the modified adjusted grow income to receive state funding based on MAGI.

MAGI is the Median Adjusted Gross Income of an area.

In other words, the average adjusted gross income of an area. The higher the income, the higher the water tax.

This new income based water tax passed out of the Utah House 59-13 with 3 absent. It ran out of time in the Senate, but will back for 2027.

If your city wants state money or cheap loan and they will, they must water rate gouge you based on your income group.

For example, Alpine's MAGI is $88,000. Orem's MAGI is $47,000. Sandy's MAGI is $68,000.

The sheriff says the man pounced on her in her own bed and se*ually battered her and then he DRAGGED her around the room by her hands and her feet.

She tried to escape out the front door while he was in the bathroom, but he chased her down, dragged her back inside, and choked her.

This 77-year-old grandmother FOUGHT.

The suspect had scratches all over his body from her fighting for her life and somehow, she got free, ran outside without any clothes, screaming for help.

Detectives found the suspect nearby, in a home with two other men.

His name is Axel Antonio Espinal Herrera.

He's 24 years old and he is an illegal immigrant from Honduras. ICE has now placed a detainer on him.

Pray for this elderly woman, I cannot imagine what she's going through.
