@OleMissBSB Something special about the Rebels in the postseason in those Navy tops, white pants, and the century-old blue cap with the traditional red block “M” - Something special, when May turns into June.
45 years ago today, Yale's Ron Darling & St. John's Frank Viola matched up in the greatest college pitching duel ever.
Both starters made it through 11 scoreless innings.
Darling didn't allow a hit until the 12th inning but St. Johns won 1-0.
We obsess over RPI but the committee now also uses DSR and KPI when evaluating teams (@marketheridge is smiling). Ole Miss is No. 15 and No. 11 in those metrics, respectively. The good news is one isn’t some crazy low outlier for Rebs.
Absolutely true. Rebs benefit in RPI from all opponents winning, especially the ones played the most. UM needs wins from Nevada, Mizzou St., Evansville, Texas, UK, MSU, UF, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas, and A&M. Bama in Tuscaloosa provides an opportunity with an RPI of 6.
If you’re doing some scoreboard watching here’s one to keep an eye on. Missouri State is No. 24 in the RPI currently. In order for the Rebs’ 3 wins over them to remain Quad 1 wins MoSt needs to stay in Top 25. They are at Kennesaw St Thurs-Sat. KSU is No. 82 RPI. Need wins there
Teams that don’t strike out at a high clip win more games. Simple as that. This is amplified at the college level — and even more at the high school level and below.
Once you get to two strikes, it becomes a team at-bat. Grind it out. Compete your tail off. Choke up, shorten up, widen out, move closer to the plate — whatever helps you execute your two-strike approach. Some call it their “B swing.”
Make the pitcher work.
We preach “look fastball away and adjust,” but there are plenty of effective two-strike approaches. You have to experiment and find what fits your swing and mindset best.
A quality two-strike approach often leads to hard-hit balls. But even when it doesn’t, the defense still has to field it, throw it, and catch it. That’s pressure.
A lot tougher to defend than a right turn back to the dugout.

@Landon78s@Scoooorebs Definitely aggravating. The problem was that the lead was only 7-2 after 6 with the wind blowing out. I think Hudson finishing Sat might have been the best choice in hindsight. The 27 pitches by Waters on Fri, plus the 41 by Calhoun & 23 by Hooks on Sat created Game 3's problems.
@Landon78s@Scoooorebs Good conversation. Hooks stayed in to face Turner bc the latter is a lefty-hitting defensive sub that had only hit a double and two singles in 19 at-bats in league play. You can also see on TV during the at-bat that someone called the bullpen from the dugout to get Waters hot.
I traded a seat in the Swayze Field press box for one in right field to chase an Ole Miss baseball beer shower.
A feature on what it’s like: https://t.co/isEisgC37l
@64Analytics@OleMissBSB actually finished 11-19 in the SEC in 2024. Despite being at 32 in the RPI, they were technically ineligible for tourney selection because they were below .500 (27-29) overall.
@JoshuaClayton_ I was present for every pitch this weekend, and I think you are talking about “Geaux…Tigers” that rose up in the Tigers’ 7th by this guy, who has been a Bayou legend for a long time: https://t.co/cvlLznm0Hk
