@rafaelribeiro99@PaulTassi I agree, I had that impression when he was first announced as taking over as game director. He seems like a competent guy who had a clear vision of what Marathon should be. He shipped it, got his payday.
@starterdev1@RedAlert5391@Okami13_ Critically it's not as good as other Bethesda games. Commercially it made 200mil+ on steam alone. Sold at least another million on Xbox and that doesn't count whoever bought gamepass just to play it or whoever bought it on the Xbox pc store.
@BearyBearx@PaulTassi Microsoft's AI division has never made money and yet they haven't laid anyone off. In fact I would guess the cuts across Microsoft are to prop up and dump more money into AI even though it has a horrible ROI. If it's just "business" they're bad at it and burning money.
@BearyBearx@PaulTassi I don't blame the devs for that, it's the whole industry laying off people based on shortsighted profit chasing. Microsoft has the money to keep staff to ensure the next XB is successful. Rockstar will probably lay off people after GTA6 launches even when they make record profit.
@Xlandral@PaulTassi Tbh given how every console jumped in price this year getting in at this price might not be a bad idea. I don't think component prices will drop anytime soon.
@BennyBondestino@_Tom_Henderson_ What's considered not a genderqueer, POC game to you? COD? Usually the best selling game every year but has pride skins? Battlefield? Which does the same as COD? GTA 6 which stars a woman and will likely outsell everything this year? What's your point, what's flipping bro? ๐
@Serial_Potato@Pat93823684@PaulTassi I would venture Bungie has always been mismanaged. They thrive when they have a partnership with a publisher who will rein them in. Bungie management doesn't know how to manage the company on their own.
@Frankschoo1@PaulTassi@hakimyoung4 If that's what they planned for they should have also made it for a niche budget. You don't spend 200mil on a niche game.
@FullGoinSend@A_dmg04 Yeah it seems like a lot of management took/are taking the payout from Sony and set up Bungie to fail. D2 was struggling to put out content when it was the main game at Bungie. Now splitting focus with Marathon? This was always a going to end this way.
@GloIt86837@WeebQx@A_dmg04@Ziegler_Dev It doesn't seem like he's arguing if the game is fun. Most people who played the last tech test and release of the game know it's good, it's fun, it's just not retaining players. He's saying they created a game that that they knew wasn't going to appeal to PVE players.
@XenoNihilism@PaulTassi Depends. If they built a new engine or at least updated the current one substantially so it's not held together with rubberbands and bubblegum it could fix a lot.
