“People assume that just because they love books, that means they’re good people.” Loving books isn’t enough. Every publisher (lit mag, ie. us), editor(us again), and agent has a responsibility to educate themselves and interrogate their acceptances, suggestions, and rejections.

A final thought from @KieseLaymon visit today- during the student Q and A, he spoke about how unintentional (or intentional) racism in the publishing industry controls which individual voices are heard and what subjects those individuals get paid to talk about. On publishers-
