Joint Action Against Custodial Torture led by Henri @Tiphagne & others issues a strong statement against custodial violence, demanding that Savukku Shankar who was assaulted in custody and who apprehends a threat to his life in Coimbatore prison must be shifted to another prison.

Shankar himself on multiple occasions in the past has been happy to shamelessly carry the police version of events in his interviews; a standout example is his attempts to justify the unjustifiable Sterlite police shootings of activists that claimed many lives. No one can condone his statements against women police officers either. However the rule of law requires that even those with adverse, hostile opinions which differ from our own require to be treated with dignity, without violence or torture, and it is our duty as a civil society to ensure that their right to life is not threatened in any manner whatsoever.
