In political debates of the past on YouTube, the people are a lot more frank and open about their ideas. Often articulate, rather than sound bites and avoiding answering the questions! (Enoch Powell!)
Toby suggests a convergence between opposing parties forming the "uniparty".
βTwenty-five years ago, the political class was more willing to engage in open debate.β
Today, there is an attempt to cast legitimate criticism of prevailing orthodoxies β whether on diversity, Islam, immigration, or climate change β as misinformation, disinformation, or hate speech.
At the heart of the free speech crisis is an unwillingness on the part of the promoters of these policies to defend them in public.
Instead of engaging in good-faith debate, they portray critics as beyond the pale.
In this relatively recent phenomenon, people are increasingly realising that if they challenge a certain cluster of prevailing orthodoxies, they are likely to be cancelled.
We must push back against this.

@TheAliceSmith We're supposed to have 2 party politics.
There's supposed to be an Opposition in the house to prevent the government from doing anything too extreme.
@justdavenow89 I'm British and I want free speech for everyone, including opinions I disagree with. However, I'm on Elon's side regarding the state of the uk.
Also, the Labour Party sent a troop over to America to support Democrats.
@SingleTicket371@DizziD59@opinion_black If you read the above it describes the circumstances under which this man was peeled away from the wall after the line of shields had passed, just as can be seen in the video.
I'm pretty sure this didn't happen twice, to 2 separate men.
@DizziD59@opinion_black@SingleTicket371 I don't know who any of these people are. Were you there? Do you know most of the people?
The police decided to push the wall of shields to move the crowd back. The mystery man was at the edge so and did not get shoved. I think that's how he came to be alone and then beaten.
@DizziD59@opinion_black@SingleTicket371 They did not beat up one of their own.
They kicked him in the head many times and there was a pool of blood on the tarmac.
@Evilraptor23@Dplanet@YoungBobRB You think American police get no training and also get given guns?!
The controversy around the death of George Floyd was that the head restraint position was part of their training.
@Evilraptor23@Dplanet@YoungBobRB Have you seen the footage of a man having his head kicked in and shield attack from several police mobbing him?
That's probably deliberate provocation.
Interesting that the British protesters weren't burning cars or damaging people's property. They threw a few wheely bins.
