@RonanMullen@DavQuinn Martin is a complete ... mmm ... 'Post Nationalist' is probably the kindest term.
He's entitled to his intentions and opinions. However he is NOT entitled to lie day in and out to us about what those intentions are. To whit move as much power as possible out of IRL to Brussels.
Today is first day of Irelandโs EU Presidency
Its going to cost the Irish taxpayer over โฌ300m.
Thats 3x the amount Cyprus just spent, โฌ95m
and 4x what Denmark spent, โฌ80m.
Most of the money is going to:
Gardaรญ & security โฌ125m
Dept of Foreign Affairs โฌ65m
OPW will get โฌ51m.
But what are they spending it on???
This E-Tender shows โฌ131,000 will be spent on woollen scarf mementos for the 4,500 EU delegates.
6 months of waste & pageantry lie ahead.
Let's spell it out. Stabbing of priest by a Muslim: almost zero media/political interest in the motive. Beheading of gay man by a Muslim: almost zero media analysis. Clonskeagh mosque closed for months partly because of suspected Muslim Brotherhood links: let's barely cover it. Irish Muslims going off to fight for ISIS: almost zero media interest. Money raised here for ISIS: almost zero media interest. Recent attempted butchering of a man in the North by a Sudanese man: let's focus on the riots. Rape of a girl outside an IPAS centre by an asylum-seeker: let's concentrate on the violent reaction. And so on.
A 4m 28s object lesson in much of what is wrong with the UK. With IRL surely hot on its heels.

@gablodian@nwl88444048 Yeah but thats probably waay off down the end of the article. IT et al want to minimise migrant crime and demonise anyone who draws attention to it. It like 1960s Catholic morality with different actors and agendas.
Would the London-HQ Times ever feck off with its "Ireland's knife crime problem". Whilst knife crime exists amongst all communities, there is a very specific problem with knife crime around the African music scene as illustrated by three dreadful events in the past 15 months.
The victims and nearly all the perpetrators have African heritage.

@CharlieFlanagan@EP_President@CLGLaois@officialgaa Ah here Charlie. She's just blowing smoke up our arses as the ability and even desire of Official Ireland to run its own affairs ebbs away to Brussels.
@danobrien20 Today's hardline nationalist is 30-year-ago's centrist dad.
There is a small possibility that Reform incompetence on NI could lead to a return to sectarian violence. And probably a short term immigration wave.
That aside its hard to see the negatives.
@frauke_baecker@DavQuinn@yuanyi_z Did you not realise as the article is paywalled readers would naturally assume the quoted text was from it. Or were you deliberately trying to mislead?
@danobrien20 We're basically the equivalent of those free-ports that the Western powers had in China in the 1800s. Whatever MNCs want they get: datacentres, immigration, low corporation tax.
@frauke_baecker@DavQuinn@yuanyi_z The text you quote is not actually in the article.
Here's some that is: "the euthanasia of children, with or without their consent, has been part of Dutch law for almost 25 years."
