FYI, governments negotiate. Governments verify. Governments disclose. There are two problems with this tweet. One is based on a lack of information, while the other is an arithmetic error. Fortunately for you, I’m one of those people the Yoruba describe as “àtún orí ọmọ tí ó sùn wọ́n ṣe.”

1. The Information Problem

The assumption that only 30 km has been completed is based on the fact that approximately 30 km of work on Section 1 of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway was commissioned last year to commemorate the President’s second anniversary in office.

However, Section 1 is approximately 47 km long, and about 42 km has already been completed, representing roughly 89% of the section. To be fair, it appears you haven’t taken the time to study this project in detail beyond criticizing it.

2. The Arithmetic Problem

Fortunately for you, I’ve been a mathematics tutor for most of my life, so I can help here as well.

This project was flagged off only about a month ago, so it would be unreasonable to expect completed pavement already.

Gombe–Biu Highway

This project was also flagged off about a month ago.

Total Paved

42 + 33 + 28 + 8 + 48 + 155 + 29 = 343 km

Total length of the Lagos–Calabar and Sokoto–Badagry highways:

1,068 km + 750 km = 1,818 km

I think you would agree that it is not intellectually prudent to argue that no work has been done on the Gombe–Biu and Akwanga–Maiduguri projects when both were only flagged off last month.

If anything, the correct calculation is:

343 ÷ 1,818 = 18.9% (approximately 19%)

But even if we use your total of 2,657 km across the four legacy highway projects, the calculation would be:

343 ÷ 2,657 = 12.9% (approximately 13%)

A layperson may look at these figures and conclude that “only 19% has been completed.” Even that would be misleading because we have discussed only the portions that have already been paved. The remaining sections are at various stages of earthworks, drainage, bridge construction, embankment, and pavement preparation. It is therefore inaccurate to suggest that nothing is happening on the remaining portions.

Please do the honourable thing and acknowledge this correction.

The way friend request have been pouring in from notable and well-known Obidients on my Facebook ehn, and I see many of their engagements here on X as well, I really cannot say why, but ya’ll are here.

But let me just say this before some of you begin to get disappointed as you all normally say.

This page, and the person behind it, is not Obidient, neither am I Atikulated. I am 101% for Mr President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. So if you’ve sent me a friend request or hit the follow button thinking otherwise, just know I never gave that impression. If you eventually become disappointed, it simply means you appointed yourself and disappointed yourself. 😅

That said, my page is open to everyone who genuinely enjoys the many other things I share here. All I ask is that you respect boundaries, respect other people’s choices, and respect the fact that democracy gives every citizen the right to hold different political opinions without becoming enemies.

As long as we can do that, I don’t think we’ll ever have a problem with each other.

You may like me for ten things and disagree with me on one. That’s life. Even I don’t agree with everyone on every issue. What I have consistently tried to uphold is respect for their choices, perspectives, opinions, convictions, and political leanings, even when I disagree with them.
