A Tale of Three Presidential Candidates
As the members of the @NigerianBarAssoc go to the polls on Saturday to elect a new President and National Officers, it is an opportune time to remind us that whether by design or default, all three Candidates for the office of President were given the opportunity to handle three critical assignments that go to the core of the Association's mandate: (i) Security, Safety and Wellbeing of Lawyers, (ii) Lawyers' Remuneration; and (iii) Continuing Legal Education and Empowerment.
Not even his worst critics can argue - with any degree of rationality – with the fact that the Continuing Legal Education mandate has been the best performed of three. Truth be told @TobennaErojikwe has simply been a class apart in words and deed.
It is written, "whoever is faithful in little things will also be faithful with plenty." Tobenna has shown what is doable. Now is the time to give him the mandate to do much more.
I am honoured and humbled to receive the endorsement of @OlumideAkpata , the immediate past president of @NigBarAssoc.
During his tenure as NBA President, I served as the Head of Policy Formulation and Project Implementation Team and we achieved many of the signature projects and programmes that his administration has continued to be lauded for. His very powerful words inspire me to continue working tirelessly for our noble profession.
It is my pledge to Nigerian lawyers that we will revive and continue those projects and exceed expectations.
Together, we can build a resilient and courageous NBA where no lawyer is left behind.
Vote me for NBA President on July 20, 2024.
Tobenna Erojikwe,
Candidate for the Office of NBA President, 2024
@TobennaErojikwe has proven his mettle as Chairman of the NBA ICLE, as an astute lawyer and as a vanguard for progressive change. I therefore think he will make a fine NBA President and hereby endorse his candidacy unreservedly”
“I ask you to support me in my quest to lead the NBA because I believe that Leadership is a partnership between the followers and the leaders. It is a joint venture enterprise. I want to be that President that people can criticize openly and privately. I want to be criticized all the time because it is someone who gets constant critics that does better everyday”.
As the Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party for the September 21, 2024, Edo State elections, I have been incredibly busy and engaged in the process of taking our message of hope and endless possibilities to the good people of Edo State in all parts of the State. I have, however, decided to take a break today, not to rest, but to devote my attention to another crucial election coming up in a few days, the election of the national officers of our beloved Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2024.
I have been inundated with calls and messages from friends and supporters asking about my preferred candidate for the office of President of the NBA in the upcoming elections. As the 30th President of the NBA, I understood and played my part in the fulfilment of the Association’s multifaceted roles: promoting and defending the rule of law, developing the legal profession, and contributing to the vital task of nation-building. In the same vein, I recognise the paramount importance of carefully deciding who leads our Association at this critical time not just for the Association but also for our dear nation, Nigeria.
It is this regard, and for the fuller reasons outlined in my message below, that I have no hesitation in endorsing - TOBENNA EROJIKWE, @TobennaErojikwe as my preferred candidate for election as the 32nd President of the NBA.
Yesterday, I attended the NBA Presidential Debate organized by the ECNBA where I had the opportunity to state my plans for our NBA.
Some say they are better than the others. I am not better than anybody. I am one of you but I believe in impact and my heart is with you.
I seek your votes and support to become the President of our great Association.
Tobenna Erojikwe
Candidate for the Office of NBA President, 2024
Across three critical pillars, a @TobennaErojikwe presidency of the @NigBarAssoc can turn around the fortunes of our Bar Association and make it #FitForPurpose.
It will be a Bar #Courageous to advocate for the masses, and #Resilient to confront the challenges of today.
