As part of @ICRC_Nigeria’s ongoing humanitarian engagement, we met with the Chief of Army Staff, @HQNigerianArmy, to reaffirm the importance of sustained dialogue in promoting respect for International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
Through continued engagement, collaboration, and a shared commitment to humanitarian principles, we aim to strengthen the protection of people affected by armed conflict and support efforts to advance the effective implementation of IHL in Nigeria.
Strengthened institutions can mean better support for people affected by crisis.
Proud to have joined @nrcs_ng on the investiture of @SenRemiTinubu as Grand Matron of the National Society and the inauguration of @nrcs_ng new headquarters in Abuja, important milestones for humanitarian action in Nigeria.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of engaging with the Hon. Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR (Rtd), on issues of mutual concern, including strengthening the implementation of international humanitarian law in Nigeria.
During our meeting, I reaffirmed the @ICRC ’s commitment to its role as a neutral intermediary, in support of principled humanitarian action aimed at protecting and assisting victims of armed conflict.
Together with the @nigeriaredcross, we are grateful for the engagement with H.E. VP @KashimSM on Nigeria’s humanitarian challenges.
Our exchange reinforces a shared responsibility to turn dialogue into action for people affected by conflict, swiftly and at scale. In line with its mandate to engage all parties, the @ICRC stands ready as a neutral intermediary, supporting humanitarian dialogue, trust, and principled action to enable protection and assistance in a neutral, impartial and independent manner.
The Vice President, Senator @KashimSM, has restated the firm resolve of the administration of President @officialABAT to address humanitarian situations across Nigeria.
This, according to him, entails that the administration will continue to engage more with critical stakeholders, including development partners, in tackling grey areas in humanitarian responses across the country.
Senator @KashimSM stated this on Tuesday when he received, on a courtesy visit, a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Nigeria (@ICRC_Nigeria) led by Ms @DDoueihyICRC at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Vice President said Nigeria, under the leadership of President @officialABAT, will continue to nurture existing relationships with key stakeholders like the ICRC, noting that “it is only when we continue engaging with organisations like the Red Cross that we can address some of the grey areas in our humanitarian responses across the country.”

In war, there’s no winner. For every bomb dropped on civilians, every prisoner humiliated, every woman raped, every health worker killed, humanity reaches a moral low point.
As 2023 ends, isn’t it time for a new life-affirming culture of compassion and solidarity for all people?

6 months of separation! A mother and her daughters are reunited in #DRC.
After a long search, ICRC and the DRC Red Cross managed to locate Ornella and Olive and brought them back home.

1 month on, civilians in Gaza & Israel are being forced to endure tremendous suffering and loss. And the impact on children is devastating.
Parties must uphold their obligations under IHL & spare all civilians from the conduct of military operations.

What’s entering Gaza today is a drop in an ocean of needs. We need safe, sustained access to bring in more supplies, more materials and more humanitarian support. For the people we serve, it’s an urgent matter of life and death.
We will never say it enough. Medical facilities in #Gaza are sanctuaries for the sick and wounded, as well as for the thousands of displaced people seeking refuge. They must be protected. The human cost of not doing so is unbearable.
