@BraveSirRobin42@____Foxtrot____ Who can confirm this came from a "lefty" source? More to the point, if it did come from a "lefty", why would they share it with anyone who had Reform sympathies, given that it plays directly into their hands?
@hd_kamanyok As a nominally "white" British Citizen who has been a committed anti-racist since childhood, I respectfully dispute that characterisation - but I can see how you may have come away with that impression. We're trying to be better, I promise you.
@Guy_online__@sharpeleven@noplaceforsheep To be clear, it depresses the shit out of me. That said, Labour remains complicit only as long as it is beholden to the donor class (not least the UK arms industry), and I stick around in hope of helping sever those ties.
@GolferRandom@MrKennethClarke For all his faults, Corbyn had the right idea - quit blaming immigrants, appreciate how decades of short-term policy let everyone down, and try to figure out how to move forward.
@sparkjimialdous@TomLondon6 I don't think it's a commitment to any geopolitical aim so much as the UK arms industry which counts the state of Israel as a significant repeat customer.
@LiamSota @sofiaa02xx Asylum seekers cannot legally work in the UK, so by definition they have zero effect on wages. Since the end of WW2 and the the Empire it was always the bosses of the British firms inviting people from the Commonwealth to work here, so why blame the immigrants and not the bosses?
@blixberrie I did (for my sins and in many ways against my better judgment) - mainly because this was a local election and I was supporting friends that I know and trust in spite of the PLP. With Mandelson exposed and his protégés tainted, we might just turn things around.
@suekenmax@WiltsAnnabelle@REFORM Umm... Between 2011 and 2020, UK asylum applications from Afghans totalled between 1,300 and 1,600 a year. A long way from "millions". Between 2021-23 there were 77 SA convictions against Afghan nationals - not great, but far from "thousands".
@BlackbeardMcGoo@TyroneG_G@linmeitalks You're forgetting the context - specifically speaking to a community that has successfully integrated with other British communities.
@Mattyldn1@MarinaPurkiss According to Google, as of March 2023 over 450 foreign nationals convicted of serious crimes have been deported. Whomever told you convicted rapists can't be deported is lying to you.
@JosephLivi36351 @PaulEmbery Asylum seekers escaping the conflicts in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq (conflicts which the UK arms industry was supplying) have been settled across the country as a whole. This was happening well before the current government.
