DELHI TRAFFIC POLICE
PRESS RELEASE
Dt. 07.08.2026
Delhi Traffic Police Leverages Technology to Enhance Road Safety and Provide Real-Time Road Information to Commuters
Delhi Traffic Police has consistently leveraged technology-driven solutions to strengthen road safety, improve traffic management, and facilitate the timely dissemination of information to road users regarding road conditions, traffic congestion, heavy traffic areas, diversions, road blockages and other traffic-related developments. These technology-based initiatives help commuters plan their journeys better and make informed decisions while travelling on Delhi roads.
As part of its continued efforts towards making roads in Delhi safer, Delhi Traffic Police is now taking a technology-based initiative to provide alerts regarding identified accident-prone zones to commuters. Under this initiative, commuters travelling on roads in Delhi will receive an alert through Google Maps and MapMyIndia when they approach an identified accident-prone area. The alerts are intended to make road users more aware of potential risk zones and encourage them to exercise greater caution while driving, thereby contributing towards reduction in road accidents and enhancement of overall road safety.
In addition, Delhi Traffic Police will also facilitate the display of prescribed maximum speed limits for roads in Delhi to commuters through digital mapping platforms. Availability of speed-limit information will enable drivers to remain aware of the prescribed speed limits on the roads they are travelling on and encourage compliance with speed regulations. This is expected to promote safer driving behaviour and reduce the risk of accidents and vehicle collisions arising from excessive or inappropriate speed.
The initiative is being undertaken through collaboration with MapMyIndia and Google India, with the objective of integrating road-safety-related information with digital navigation platforms.
Through this technology-driven initiative, Delhi Traffic Police aims to provide timely, accessible and actionable road-safety information to commuters and promote informed and responsible driving. The initiative is another step towards strengthening the use of technology for safer, smarter and more reliable mobility in Delhi.
(Vijayanta Goyal Arya) IPS
Addl. Commissioner of Police,
