@interesting_aIl Take Utility Theory with a grain of salt. It leads to a lot of absurd conclusions. Which is why wise economists generally use it as an analytical tool and not an actual desired policy.
@jbarro Not sure the rights of parents under due process is entirely fleshed out. Either way, I think most courts think that avoiding possible harm, even based on hearsay, is a compelling interest sufficient to temporarily deprived a parent of their child.
