I don't have a vote in #Seanad NUI panel elections, but urging those who do to support Senator Alice Mary Higgins @aliceeire@SeanadCEG. One of the sharpest minds in the land. A consistent & courageous voice on social & global justice, incl neutrality, Palestine, ecology, & more.
The Ballots have landed!
Vote Alice-Mary Higgins No.1 for a progressive, effective & passionate legislator with a track record on equality, environment & human rights.
Thanks to @ailbhes - one of my amazing nominators - for her words of support! #Seanad2025#SE25#NUI
Important 🧵on our new peer-reviewed paper:
The pandemic is as bad as it ever was for babies - in year to Aug 2023, 6,300 babies under 1 were admitted to hospital wholly or partly BECAUSE of Covid.
They are ONLY age group where admissions have NOT gone down over time 1/17
This statement from @greenparty_ie is factually wrong. The Bill explicitly includes "a terminal used for the liquefaction of natural gas or the importation, offloading and re-gasification of liquefied natural gas" with no caveats on fracked gas or temporary/commercial operation.
This is simply the most brilliant news for Ireland. I couldn't imagine a better appointment than this absolutely wonderful human being.

🇵🇸 Feet on the street for Palestine tomorrow! Let's show our solidarity with the Palestinian people. Let's show our government that we want sanctions on apartheid Israel and we want an end tovthis genocide and attacks on Lebanon. #FreePalestine#GazaGenocide 🇵🇸

Lots of coverage of report of the Scoping Review into Historical Sexual Abuse in Schools in today’s papers.
2 outstanding pieces that I hope everyone reads are by Deirdre Kenny, CEO of @oneinfourirish in Irish Mail on Sunday & another from @RadioBrendanRTE in Sunday Independent
I disagree. This cannot be left to victims.
The state has obligations under international law to secure justice, truth and reparations for victims of abuse.
It must take every necessary step to robustly hold congregations, other church authorities and other agencies accountable
@_Hedda_Gabler__ @McGlynnClare I’m so, so, sorry for you. That was not right. It’s a really tough one to shift-tough to get the existing structures and culture to see both abuse of the mother as abuse of the children, and abuse of the mother as an indicator to look and see is there abuse of the children
Today we publish a new report - “That’s Not Your Role” - into State funding and advocacy in Ireland.
The report finds a worrying level of self-censorship by community & voluntary organisations receiving State funding due to fear of impact on funding.
