I'm supposed to be working on the core gameplay of Cavey Taxi for the Atari STE, but instead I've gotten caught up in creating this logo distorter for the high scores screen. 😄
Back to the game itself when I've got these demoscene urges off my chest!
#AtariSTE#CaveyTaxi
This is the latest build of the Atari STE game I am now provisonally calling "Cavey Taxi".
Pick up passengers in a tight cave complex and drop them off elsewhere, fighting gravity, time and fuel consumption. With pretty parallax scrolling and particles.
What's not to like? 😀
Continued work on this upcoming minigame for the Atari STE. The gameplay is shaping up to be a bit Crazy Taxi-esque - pick up passengers and drop them off elsewhere in the cave without running out of time or fuel.
Still lots of work to do but coming along nicely!

🚨 Proof of Concept: High-Performance Graphics on a Stock #Atari STFM! 🚨
In this video, I’m showing something cool:
🎮 A stock Atari STFM — no accelerators, no STe hardware, no blitter. Just running at the classic 8 MHz. The only extras connected are my @Sidecartridge Multidevice and my other gadgets — nothing more.
🧠 But what’s happening isn’t ordinary. As soon as it’s powered on, the machine runs a demo — rendered entirely by the RP2040 inside the Pico W on the Multidevice.
🚀 The demo is a proof of concept: it’s feasible to run a 50 fps horizontal/vertical scrolling scene, entirely driven by the external coprocessor.
✔️ Every frame, the background is refreshed — just like in a real side-scrolling game.
✔️ It displays up to 30 animated, masked, pixel-scrolling sprites, each 48x48 px.
✔️ There’s also overlay text rendered in real-time.
✔️ And again — no blitter, no STe, no accelerators.
🧪 The code still has a lot of room for optimization. Based on what I see now, 50 animated sprites at 50 fps seems totally within reach.
🎧 Even more exciting — the Atari ST still has enough CPU cycles left to stream digitized audio from the RP2040.
💡 Why all this?
Because I want to run Doom on this little gadget — and play it on the ST at 50 fps.
And now… I genuinely think it’s possible.

Last night Team Canada learned FAFO:
1–They booed our anthem
2–So we get into 3 fights in the first 9sec
3–We then net 3 unanswered goals
4–We blast Free Bird after each goal
5–And we blow them out in their OWN STADIUM
6–AMERICA IS BACK
Congratulations @usahockey on a huge win!
