@HarryHayfield @DafyddTrystan Being pedantic here. But 100/7=14.3% to be guaranteed a seat and in practice the threshold is a lot lower. You would have needed over 9% to get elected in SWW or SWC in 2021.
@AdamWJT Bit of an anorak point, but youโd be guaranteed a seat with over 1/7th (impossible for 6 people to beat you) and in practice 12% would often be enough.
@ShiptonMartin@DafyddTrystan Completely agree that STV is the better option. But independents stand a considerably better chance under the proposed system than under the current one where they did to win a plurality of votes.
@ShiptonMartin@DafyddTrystan But surely it is easier to get to 12-13% in a larger constituency than to get the 35-45% you might need to win in a constituency.
If you got 35% in Blaenau Gwent you could get 0 votes in the rest of the twinned constituency and still be safely in.
