@JulesDiner and this is all fine. Pets are quite simply not as important as people and are a fleeting, optional part of life, to be partaken in when it is easy and enjoyable and to be abstained from when it impedes. A dog being sad is sad, but it doesn't rise to the level of a real issue.

Also, "whiteness" isn't something that needs to be absolved. It's a skin color people are born with.
