@HDMOVIESOURCE Steelbook is already a gimmick ploy to jack up the prices on an already massively expensive format, and the people who say “just be grateful and buy it” don’t help the short cuts the studios will make on their packaging.
@Madmaddingcrowd I'm seeing today and the theater (sure, AMC Lincoln) is packed out. I actually think the BO office drop is gonna be small, if not slightly higher. I'mactually hearing chatter about this one in the world for a change.
Ben Affleck says that he gets in a lot of arguments with kids on voice chat when playing shooter games.
“They taunt you, like, ‘You suck. Fuck you!’ I end up getting in arguments. ‘Fuck you! I don't suck! I'm a grown man!’”

@AlliCinema@wildcattinwow I always hear of mice at Lincoln and I never see them, but on two instances a few years apart I saw a straight up RAT. Once was a 10pm show downstairs, so I avoided downstairs since. And the second was upstairs at a 1pm show, which REALLY put me on guard.
YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER release got totally botched, a slow platform rollout that was supposed to go wide today and instead isn't going wide at all. It went from 1 theater in Manhattan to 3 theaters in Manhattan. Baffling!
I’ve thought about this concept a bunch and a mix of more “work from home” styles can sure play into it. But I mostly think it’s demonstrative of more hourly wage work, retail gigs, server gigs, gigs that have irregular hours, not 9-5 style, leading to crowds at all times.
Did I space or did NYFF not do a surprise screening this year? Or was You Can See Everything filling that gap (though on that front, it’s in the festival trailer which I don’t think a surprise screening ever featured?)
There is a strange glee with describing this movie as a bomb that I can’t figure out. Sure, it’s not grossing very much, but there’s actual dialogue about it, plenty of positive reviews and reactions—-it’s a far cry from like a Pluto Nash or a notorious bomb like that.
@smhrbst I glossed over that you saw What Can't Be Mentioned. I'm glad you did! Dan is a friend of mine and I was really blue I couldn't make his premiere.
@smhrbst I get to see six of these in the coming days. I'm really packing them in, but still hoping to see The Dreamed Adventure encore screening, which will not budge with availability.
Me when I read half the Wheel of Time
novels, and then when I switched to audiobooks for the last few going “who the fuck is that?”, paging through my copy, finding that part, and going “ah yes, Plernickbocker, of course!”
Reading a book and coming across a character's name that you don't know how to pronounce, so for the rest of the book, every time you see it, your brain just goes ‘skdjfkskakfk.’
at the Angelika they played a trailer for a new movie starring Juliette Binoche and when it ended, an old man’s gravelly voice reverberated through the theater: “That Juliette Binoche. She’s somethin’ else.”
Why must a film make money? What is this obsession with earning back its budget? Sometimes a visionary work should be allowed to exist for its own sake. This fixation with profits above all other aesthetic considerations will be the death of art.
@DuncanS21@HotshotsBurner There were reports of him struggling to remember lines for Woody Allen’s Cafe Society, and he was replaced with Steve Carell. At the time there were linkages with that and him being “difficult”, but it certainly aligns with the above.
