Roseanne Milburn, 61, of Winnipeg, had a routine procedure turn into an amputation — not because the surgery failed, but because Canada’s government-run system couldn’t find her a bed.

A surgeon at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre removed dead tissue from her knee, then sent her to Concordia Hospital with the plan to bring her back that same day so a specialist could stitch the wound (CBC News). She was never brought back.

There was no bed at HSC. So she sat at Concordia with an 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬, waiting for the system to make room.

By the time a bed opened, the wound had rotted past saving. The doctors told her the leg couldn’t be salvaged. On a Friday in December, Roseanne Milburn lost her 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐠 — over a missing hospital bed.

This is not a freak accident. It is the predictable output of a system that rations care by making people wait.

In 2025, the median Canadian waited 𝟐𝟖.𝟔 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 from a GP referral to actual treatment (Fraser Institute). For orthopedic surgery — the exact category Milburn needed — the median wait is 𝟒𝟖.𝟔 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬. Nearly a full year. By design.

That is 222 percent longer than the 9.3-week wait Canadians faced in 1993 (Fraser Institute). The system isn’t getting better. It’s getting slower — and the waiting list itself becomes the rationing mechanism.

Defenders call it “𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦”. It is not free. Roseanne Milburn paid for it. She paid with her leg.

Adam Carolla tells Jerry Seinfeld he recognized something on the Seinfeld set that completely ruined the show for him.

It proved the show was shot in LA, not New York.

When Seinfeld premiered in 1989, Carolla was working on earthquake retrofits in Koreatown.

The moment he saw the tension anchor plates bolted to the outside of Jerry’s apartment building, he knew, “This is not New York,” and it took him “completely out of it.”

Those plates are used to strengthen buildings against earthquakes, a common sight in California, but not in Manhattan.

JUST IN: Bank of America just told its clients to take profits. About 70% of its bear-market signals are flashing, a level it typically reaches only near market tops.

Weeks earlier, BofA's own fund manager survey showed the largest one-month jump into stocks ever recorded, with cash down to 3.9%, under the 4% line the bank treats as a sell signal.

Read those together. Investors made their biggest dash into equities in the survey's history at almost the exact moment BofA's own indicators say the top is near.

But the number that should actually stop you is buried in the note, and almost nobody is quoting it.

The companies driving this entire rally, the AI hyperscalers, are on track to spend nearly 100% of their operating cash flow on capex by year-end. In 2023 that figure was 40%.

Sit with that. Big tech used to throw off cash and hand it back through buybacks, which lifted the stocks. Now it is pouring almost every dollar it generates into chips and data centers. BofA notes buybacks have slowed and cash conversion has flat-lined.

The engine of the rally is consuming the fuel that powered the stocks. It is the same $725 billion build that companies are now blaming for layoffs. The whole market is priced on one bet, and that bet has grown large enough to eat the cash that used to support the share prices.

This is not a crash call. BofA's year-end target is 7,100, about 4% below today, and the median outcome after this cash signal since 2011 has been a 1% dip, not a collapse. The posts screaming sell everything are wrong.

The real message is quieter. You are being paid less and less to stay, while the engine runs hotter and hotter.

THOUGHTS FROM ME: If you asked me whether Iran is more dangerous today than before the operation, my answer is yes.

Not because Iran is stronger. It is clearly weaker.

But a weakened regime that still survives can be more dangerous than a confident one.

Iran has taken a serious hit, yet the regime remains in power.

The lesson the regime may take from this is not to abandon its nuclear ambitions, but to accelerate them. A nuclear weapon may now be seen as its only guarantee of survival.

Think of it like stopping halfway through surgery.

The disease has been cut open, damaged, and weakened.

But it is still alive.

Its wounds are exposed, the body is under stress, and the source of the illness remains inside.

A damaged disease that survives is more dangerous than before the operation began.

An unfinished military operation can create a more desperate and unpredictable enemy.

The job is far from finished.
