The AI boom is creating a generational divide in software jobs:

US software developer employment for those aged 22-25 has declined -23% since November 2022, when ChatGPT was launched.

At the same time, the 26-30 age group has seen a decrease of -5%.

By comparison, employment among software developers aged 41-49 has risen +18% over the same period.

This creates a 41 percentage point gap between the youngest and one of the most experienced groups within the same profession.

Meanwhile, early-career workers in the most AI-exposed jobs have experienced a -16% decline in employment relative to less-exposed occupations and more experienced peers since November 2022, even after adjusting for firm-specific shocks.

By contrast, employment among workers in less AI-exposed fields, as well as more experienced workers within the same occupations, has remained steady or continued to grow.

The AI revolution is wiping out entry-level tech jobs.

Brownsville, Texas is where American ships go to die. The port hosts most of the country's shipbreaking industry, the yards that cut retired Navy vessels into scrap. A 4-year-old startup just picked that exact port to spend $3.2 billion building ships again.

The location choice tells you how bad the starting point is. A leaked Office of Naval Intelligence slide put annual US shipbuilding capacity under 100,000 tons. China's sits at 23.2 million. The Navy Secretary told Congress in 2023 that a single Chinese shipyard out-builds the entire American industry.

Saronic's bet is that you can't close a 232x gap by retrofitting old yards, so they refused to. Port Alpha starts greenfield on 835 acres designed around robotics and software-defined production, expandable to 4,400 acres, capable of 850-foot vessels at opening in 2028 and 1,200-foot ships after that. Their Louisiana yard already produces a 180-foot autonomous vessel that went from design to launch in under a year.

Autonomy is the manufacturing unlock. Strip out crew quarters, life support, and a galley, and a warship stops being a bespoke floating city. It becomes a product you can mass produce.

The timing stopped being theoretical this week: Saronic's sea drones saw US combat use for the first time.

Twenty miles up the road, SpaceX builds Starship. Cameron County spent decades as one of the poorest counties in the country. It now hosts the rocket factory and the shipyard America forgot how to build.

Starbucks spends $400 million a year on software. Yesterday they announced they're moving off IBM and Microsoft to build their own custom systems in-house.

IBM dropped 3% and Salesforce dropped 4% on the news.

And honestly this is, unequivocally, the biggest signal I've seen since OpenAI and Anthropic launched their consulting arms back in Q1. The largest companies in the world are done paying for software that half fits how they work.

We saw this coming about a year ago. Moved everything we build off Airtable and low-code tools and went fully custom. Already paying off, and it's only going to compound from here.

This is the opportunity right now.

You get all of a company's data into one system. You build out a single operating system for the entire business. You cut out bad, redundant processes. Then you layer AI on top of it, under the correct processes.

That's the core of AI consulting. Helping companies actually operate better.

There are a lot of fly-by-night offerings circulating right now when it comes to Ai Services.

For example, 'second brains'.

Throwing scattered data into a second brain while the processes underneath stay broken does nothing. The companies who will absolutely destroy their competition over the next 5 years are rebuilding how they work from the ground up.

Starbucks is showing you what other companies will be doing over the next several years.

Your job is to position yourself to facilitate that process for as many companies as you can.

JPMorgan is testing AI agents that independently shift investments between stocks and bonds as market conditions change.

In 20-year backtests, its top model beat the traditional 60/40 portfolio by 0.7 percentage points annually, with lower volatility. All eight AI agents delivered stronger risk-adjusted returns.

But JPMorgan urges caution: the results are simulations, not live performance. AI could also increase crowded trades and amplify market stress.
