#UVicNursing and @Uvic_Socw launch Harm Reduction: Principles and Practice” provides foundational knowledge and skills to undergraduate and graduate students in the history, evidence, and practice of harm reduction related to substance use and health. https://t.co/ZeYEjJvVx3
20 years ago today the doors opened for North America's first supervised consumption site! (Insite) When I first signed up I believed I was just there to use drugs safely. What I didn't know was it would save my life multiple times, connect me with health services for life threatening bone infections, access to detox services and recovery treatment which propelled me to have over a decade of sobriety. Yes this green building doesn't look like much from the outside but it's the people inside who change lives by treating people with kindness & respect. To everyone who works or supports OPS/SCS thank you for fighting for this vital health service. Happy 20 years, thank you for saving my life!
It seems unlikely you will find any discarded needles out there today, Calgary BUT you may see a street-involved individual in need of one of the other supports we offer. Please refer to the following #s and call if you see someone needing to get out of this #yycweather#abstorm

Discourse about LRT stations comes up every winter...If outrage about #homelessness lasted past -30°C temps (as though being #homeless is only bad/hard if it's cold) maybe discourse could be about real policy solutions & our collective voice could see those solutions implemented
My colleague, Kym Bontinen, and I are extending #simulation practices outside of the sim suites. We hope you can join us to learn about #AdvocacyInquiry and how this approach can inform conversations within your teaching context.

Teaching students about Coumadin today. A safe supply of drugs would be like offering people Coumadin instead of rat poison from the hardware store. People deserve a #safesupply
Teaching does not=learning. What I say is not always what the students learn. Feedback loops are extremely helpful to understand their learning: the collective blank stare, the anxiety rising in the room or the students’ ability to apply what I’ve said to clinical tells me a lot!
I hate when I see stuff about “lives lost to addiction” - addiction, if you even want to use the word, doesn’t actually kill people. It mostly just makes them unhappy and inebriated a lot of the time. It’s the toxic inconsistency of our criminalized drug supply that’s so lethal.
In the first six months of 2022 in Edmonton we have had 303 overdoses compared to the same time period last year, which had 274. That's a 10.6% increase.

Do you know any undergraduate students interested in conducting #research? Encourage them to apply for the Ready for Research Badge Program! Students can earn a micro-credential and will be prepared to confidently participate in research. Learn more: https://t.co/udkOBRCV2e
If folks who are opioid dependent could simply walk into a pharmacy and pick up regulated opioids covered by Medicaid - they wouldn’t be getting sick, dying, going to jail, doing desperate things to acquire medication etc. Those things aren’t innate consequences of the drug.
Our expectations were low and by jove they still didn't meet them. End the Drug War, provide safer supply. Every drug poisoning death is a policy choice. #ableg#abpoli
@shazmamithani This move makes life saving treatment inaccessible for members of our community during a drug toxicity crisis. Moving treatment "out of reach" is abhorrent. Accessibility can be, and often if, the most important determining factor for treatment success. https://t.co/6UVtvlGWWf
