@TheMightyMagnet@GovPressOffice George W. Bush was president in 2008. President Obama was sworn in on January 20th of 2009. Regardless, I think most people would prefer those housing prices over today’s prices.
@BillAckman@realDonaldTrump Okay, but the wall argument is asinine. They are easily bypassed and the vast majority of immigrants enter the US through designated points of entry.
@pbeisel@FrederikNeckar He’s makes the argument that humans, unlike other animals, were able to organize themselves into complex societies because of their ability to believe in shared fictions, such as money, nations, corporations, religions, human rights, etc.
@pbeisel@FrederikNeckar I think you’re conflating fiction with something else. It’s not being used in a dismissive sense. It’s being used to describe human narratives. Gold is merely a mineral, but if we collectively agree on a narrative around it, we get a system of money.
@13StripesNStars@pbeisel@FrederikNeckar Money is a concept that humans created. It only exists in our collective imaginations. Love, similarly, is a human narrative. We created the concept.
@13StripesNStars@pbeisel@FrederikNeckar We’re not talking about tangible objects. We’re talking about imaginary constructs. Religion, money, nations, laws, etc.
