Today it's my pleasure to present my magnum opus from my time in the Levin group: a site-selective benzene-to-pyridine "transmutation"
Now, you can perform C-to-N replacements in arenes with intuitive and predictable site selectivity!

@ndchiappini 5239K24 from McMaster-Carr! It's a bit wider gauge so if you want to do slow additions you'll want something narrower but they have plenty of sizing options. I typically use this for sending reactions into a schlenk filter setup so it needs to be wide enough not to clog.
A chemistry breakthrough could make medication discovery easier. UChicago scientists have created a way to easily replace carbon with nitrogen atoms. Learn more about the studies published in @ScienceMagazine and @Nature: https://t.co/0YIAk3yBGK
Our democratically elected #paperofthemonth is @group_levin's impressive study on aromatic nitrogen scanning by nitrene internalization!

#ProcterPOW: Out in @ScienceMagazine the @group_levin from @UChiChemistry report a skeletal editing strategy for nitrogen-scanning; selectively 🔄 an aromatic C - bound to an azide - for N by ipso-selective nitrene internalisation. 🔗👇

Putting a nitrogen in place of carbon in these molecules’ aromatic rings can result in dramatic improvements in key pharmacological parameters—so much so that medicinal chemists have dubbed it the “necessary nitrogen atom.” Read more: https://t.co/S2nM3ZRONu
The Levin Group has created a new reaction by swapping a carbon atom with a nitrogen atom in an aromatic ring, which "could make nitrogen scanning much easier."

Don't want to jinx it but... our group submitted our first paper today and I'm super excited about it!! 🎉
Also my first time trying @ChemRxiv

@sasha_sundstrom We use those occasionally. I've even stuck two lamps in each side, but you'll want to mount a little PC fan or something on there. Your reaction will get pretty warm without it but it shouldn't be a fire hazard.
Amerikaanse chemici (@LevinChem) vonden een manier om in een benzeenring een van de C-atomen regioselectief te vervangen door een N-atoom, @ScienceMagazine: https://t.co/RKdkZqE5dI
