The largest excommunication in the History of the Church?
How many Chinese communist bishops, consecrated without the Pope’s authorization, who persecute true Catholics in the catacombs, have been excommunicated? None.
How many heretical German bishops — from the richest church in the world (in terms of money received from taxes) but with ever less Catholic faith and fewer faithful in the churches — have been excommunicated? None.
How many priests like Father James Martin, who deceive souls and lead them toward Hell, have been excommunicated? Zero.
How many Bishops, Priests, and laypeople who despise the truth and publicly defend the most absurd things contrary to Catholic doctrine have been excommunicated? None.
How many Bishops, Priests, religious men and women, and laypeople from the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (SSPX) have been excommunicated? Supposedly 600,000.
If this is true, this would be the largest excommunication ever in 2000 years. Even in the Eastern Schism, a thousand years ago, when the Orthodox separated from the Catholic Church, the priests and the faithful where never excommunicated by decree.
Does anyone think this makes sense?
@yasmintwinkle Good luck if you want to contact the Pope... that's H.E. Victor Manuel Card. Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith...
@yasmintwinkle Thank you, and prayers for Father's recovery, but this is certainly not the same case. Even then, it's no excuse to handle the Holy Eucharist in such a way that the Precious Blood could be easily spilled... No accommodation for an injured priest requires such handing.
@lukei4655@MoresJustus@uconsent Nor is it forbidden to make the usual turns for the greeting, or to give the blessing. After all, the Mass extends to the whole Church, and so does the blessing.
@Sivispacem17@jdflynn Indeed. What happened to odia restringi et favores convenit ampliari (burdens are to be restricted and favors multiplied) and the supreme law of the Church being the salvation of souls (Canon 1752)?
One might as well argue that the pope could say that water can't be used for baptism if it came out of the hot tap. When Canon 841 talks about defining what is needed for validity, it means defining *what is contained in divine law*.
@AnOnPenName@dcosacchi I think it depends on your reading of the word leave. If you think 'leave behind,' yes, it sends the wrong message. But if you read as 'Carry into' it does not. We're all called based on our state of life to 'leave' Christ for Christ. In the sense of carrying Him with us.
Father Joseph White led a prayer for the Patriots ahead of the Super Bowl during Sunday mass at Sacred Heart Italian Church in the North End.

@Icekiller369@BreeSolstad Rediculous. You can go to as many Masses as you want! You can only receive the Holy Eucharist twice in a day outside of viaticum. However, attending Mass and receiving the Holy Eucharist are NOT synonymous.
@ravenousreader It's a beautiful thing, a reminder that we're made for more than this world, death isn't the end. The catafalque at Ss. Trinita is particularly beautiful. Note the skull and cross bones at the base!
Les saints ne constituent pas une caste restreinte d'élus, mais une foule innombrable, magnifique, parfaite, vers laquelle la liturgie nous invite aujourd'hui à élever le regard. +RS
