@ItsEricAaberg The other key is that you generated a disproportionate amount of value. Companies should get better at recognizing when you do great work. It's a shame that jumping is the most viable option, but the companies that truly re-evaluate and invest can keep their best people.
@SnazzyLabs@jmwilt21@coreh@derrickgott007@brandenflasch I'm on your side with the sharing piece! If you're making your library available outside of your house, Plex is a clear winner there and worth the money (subscription or lifetime pass).
I would never subject any friends or family to Tailscale.
@jmwilt21@coreh@SnazzyLabs@derrickgott007@brandenflasch You're right, anyone who is self-hosting media is definitely into tech and could handle Tailscale and/or an AI assistant to coach you through things.
Most watch at home and fewer share with friends/family. I think Jellyfin suits those who don't value the sharing, Plexamp, etc.
@jmwilt21@coreh@SnazzyLabs@derrickgott007@brandenflasch For an engineer who knows 3D printing, tech, and EVs, of course! Tailscale is really nice.
Now help your buddy from college who knows nothing about computers set it up. Or your parents?
It's not as straightforward for them. They'd rather pay the $2.99/mo for a Remote Watch pass
@coreh@SnazzyLabs@derrickgott007@brandenflasch You can get similar on Jellyfin, but if you want to use it outside of your house or with friends/family, you need to buy a domain and know how to set up a reverse proxy and SSL cert.
If that's above your head, you at least need a VPN.
If that's too much, Plex is easier.
@uncertainsys@TencentAI_News@NousResearch Yeah, for people who are already running it locally, I don't think there's much of a draw based on this post. Because more people are talking about Hermes though, I get why Tencent is promoting an easier path to get started.
@petergyang This was the premise of @NetworkChuck's latest video! I've done so much model research and optimal stack investigation that I need to stop and build things.
