@LadyDemosthenes OK.
Still, when Jesus returns and declares The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be His church on Earth, look me up. I'll be happy to teach you what I know.
That's a funny take, but in all seriousness, no, you wouldn't. The only people cast into outer darkness are Satan, Cain, and anybody else who denies the Holy Ghost. You are not equipped with the knowledge and witness necessary to get to outer darkness, and, as an active member of the church, neither am I.
You really should read the Book of Mormon. Ponder its teachings and pray about it. Ask God if it is true. No amount of Bible Hub and other links can replace the direct confirmation from the Holy Ghost.
Also, we're near the end, so now would be the best time to start. I sincerely hope you do.
The point of the US having a 2nd Amendment isn't for self-defense or hunting; it's there for the citizenry to overthrow the government if it becomes corrupt and tyrannical. I don't think that will ever happen, though, because people have been slow-boiled into submission over the course of a century.
@LadyDemosthenes I'm sorry, but you're wrong, which is a very, very good thing. Now, you have so much more to look forward to.
I mean, you're free to reject God's ineffable gifts if you want to, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
You keep talking about context and then rushing to eliminate all context to make an invalid point.
Psalm 82:6-7 makes it clear that the word means "gods" in this context and not human judges.
"I have said, ye are ʾĕlōhîm; and all of you are children of the Most High. But ye shall die like men (כְּאָדָם תְּמוּתוּן, kĕʾādām tĕmûtûn) and fall like one of the princes."
The threat only lands if the addressees are not ordinarily mortals. You don't sentence human judges to "die like humans."
Furthermore, Christ calling back to these verses doesn't make sense if the word means "judges."
Fortunately, modern-day prophetic revelation clears all of this up. We are children of God, and as such, heirs.
It is sad to see people who profess to be Christians throw away the grand truth for something far less. Don't be one of those Christians.
Psalm 82 begins by describing God standing among a group of heavenly beings. This setting, sometimes called the divine council, is described in several places throughout the Old Testament. In this instance, God appears to be addressing those He had appointed as judges but who had judged unjustly. The phrase “ye are gods” likely refers to the fact that God had given these individuals His divine authority to act as judges, and they exercised that authority unjustly.
During His mortal ministry, the Savior referenced this verse when the Jews accused Him of blasphemy for claiming to be the Son of God. He challenged His accusers by asking why they condemned Him when the scriptures use the word “god” to describe beings other than Jehovah. Modern prophets have referenced Psalm 82:6 when teaching that we are the children of God.
I didn't say that adoption and heirship means we'll be like God in all ways. For example, we will always be subservient to God. Still, that does NOT mean we can't or won't become gods ourselves. We absolutely can.
Here's a list of God's attributes that you already have or can attain, according to the Bible, you can (or already have):
• Been created in God's image (Genesis 1).
• Become immortal and perfected (1 Corinthiants 15).
• Receive the same glory God gave to Christ (John 17).
• Be a joint heir with Christ, meaning you can receive all that Christ has received from the Father (Romans 8).
• Receive a fulness of knowledge (John 3, 1 Corinthians 13).
• Receive a fulness of truth (John 8).
• Receive a fulness of power (Matthew 17, John 14).
• Receive a fulness of charity and love (1 Corinthians 13).
• Perfection (Matthew 5, 2 Peter 1).
• Judgment (1 Corinthians 6).
• Thrones, kingdoms, dominions, and principalities (Revelation 3, 5, and 20).
• Godhood (John 10, Revelation 21).
So, what godly attributes does God have that you think we cannot obtain, which would render us incapable of becoming gods?
@corkychambers1@disagreebutter@phil_lyman The reason Phil got arrested and convicted shows he's a badass when it comes to values, responsibility, justice, honor, courage, compassion, humility, integrity, and selflessness. I'm definitely voting for that.
@LadyDemosthenes Hold on. You don't already know that the Bible teaches these things? You can start with Romans 8, since that's the key point of my question.
@GoWithJordan_@Darb_Seyah777 True. For example, the "mormon view" of God is logical and correct, whereas the "Christian view" is a weird, non-biblical tangle of illogical nonsense, shoehorned into the faith by a baseless, man-made requirement for monotheism.
@chrisbrunet They'd only give that look because the proposition is nonsensical. A belief in Christ, the Eternal God and sole means of salvation, is what makes you a Christian.
